Requirements
- Completion of a Wireman apprenticeship or equivalent and proficiency in using trade tools and equipment on energized and de-energized systems.
- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity as they pertain to utility systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations and possession of, or ability to obtain within thirty working days after selection, a First Aid Certificate.
- A valid driver's license with the necessary endorsements.
- Ability to maintain a current Commercial Driver's License, including necessary endorsements and removal of the air brake restriction.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, test, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair substation equipment, including transformers, regulators, load tap changers, circuit breakers, circuit switchers, motor-operated and manual switches, bus work, wiring, battery banks and chargers, metal-clad switchgear, GIS substations, and substation structures.
- Operate substation equipment, perform switching, take clearances, and install personal protective grounds.
- Perform testing on substation apparatus, including power factor, transformer turns ratio, megger, ductor, battery load testing, oil sampling, dielectric testing, SF6 gas sampling and processing, and other assigned analytical tests.
- Follow safety rules and company standards.
- Work in confined spaces and elevated work areas, including operating with bucket and boom trucks.
- Work independently or with others and occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions.
- Maintain responsibility for tools, test equipment, and vehicles and perform similar incidental duties as required.
