Requirements
  • Completion of formal training in an approved school of radiologic technology
  • Maintains current New York State licensure and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Basic Life Support certification (BLS) certification with CE credits as required
Responsibilities
  • Performs CT exams by following and verifying referring provider orders and remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences department and all governing bodies.
  • Identifies patient service requirements.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
  • Prepares patient for radiological/CT procedures by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices;
  • Moves equipment into specified position; adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Ensures proper imaging techniques related to patients age and ability to understand procedure (sight, hearing needs, ability to cooperate) to ensure image quality is successfully obtained.
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider's orders.
  • Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation. Maintains production and quality of CT images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA), using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
  • Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.
  • At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities.
