Requirements
  • A BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years as a tech lead, team lead, or senior engineer with de facto ownership of a domain and its delivery.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Java 17 or 21 and Spring Boot, including Spring Data JPA and/or JDBC, transaction management, Spring MVC REST APIs, dependency injection, and testing at every layer.
  • Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema and index design, non-trivial SQL, transaction and locking behavior, and safe migrations with Liquibase or Flyway.
  • Experience designing REST APIs for consumers that cannot be redeployed in lockstep, including resource modeling, validation, error semantics, versioning, and deprecation.
  • Solid distributed-systems practice involving asynchronous message-driven processing, idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, and compensating actions.
  • Working proficiency in TypeScript and React, including hooks, component composition, forms, and asynchronous data fetching, sufficient to build and review product screens.
  • Demonstrated ownership of testing and continuous-integration quality, including writing integration tests against real dependencies and addressing failed pipelines.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and running effective code and design reviews.
  • Cloud and container fluency with AWS or an equivalent platform, Docker, and basic Kubernetes.
  • Strong written communication for design documents, architecture decision records, and pull-request descriptions.
Responsibilities
  • Own the technical direction of one or more domains across the backend and portal tier, including the data model, service boundaries, API contracts, latency, idempotency, and auditability.
  • Turn product intent into designs and implementation plans by breaking epics into implementable slices, sequencing them, and identifying risks and dependencies.
  • Write design documents and architecture decision records that enable others to build against technical decisions.
  • Set and uphold the quality bar through code review, pairing, and clear standards.
  • Mentor mid- and senior-level engineers, grow their design skills and domain knowledge, delegate meaningful ownership, and provide direct feedback.
  • Coordinate across teams and repositories when features span the backend, BFF tier, portals, and infrastructure.
  • Be accountable for delivery in the assigned area by surfacing schedule and scope problems early with recommendations.
  • Design and build Spring Boot services using established patterns and expose them through the BFF tier for portals.
  • Model domain data in PostgreSQL and evolve it safely with Liquibase, including indexes, constraints, and zero-downtime schema changes.
  • Implement asynchronous flows using the platform messaging infrastructure, transactional outbox, and SQS consumers with idempotency, retries, and failure handling.
  • Design and version service-to-service and partner-facing APIs so existing consumers remain compatible across releases.
  • Implement business-process steps in the workflow engine, including service tasks, decision logic, and domain operations.
  • Build frontend features in React and TypeScript using typed clients generated from OpenAPI specifications, shared component-library forms and tables, and TanStack Query for server state.
  • Own the test strategy for the domain, including unit tests, Testcontainers-backed integration tests, and end-to-end coverage.
  • Lead production debugging and incident response using logs, traces, and metrics; drive root-cause fixes and platform improvements.
  • Improve shared libraries, tooling, and the design system when feature work exposes gaps.
Desired Qualifications
  • An MA in Computer Science.
  • Experience in mortgage, insurance, lending, or another regulated financial domain, including industry data standards such as MISMO.
  • BPM/workflow engine experience with Camunda or a similar platform, including BPMN modeling, DMN decision tables, and process versioning.
  • Practical experience with domain-driven design and event-driven architecture, including aggregates, domain events, outbox, CQRS/projections, and event sourcing.
  • Depth in the Java ecosystem, including MapStruct, Lombok, Maven multi-module builds, Bean Validation, and OpenAPI code generation.
  • Experience with Redis and/or Caffeine caching, including invalidation across multiple service instances.
  • Frontend ecosystem experience with Vite, pnpm workspaces, TanStack Query/Form, Tailwind, Storybook, Playwright, Vitest, and MSW.
  • Spring Batch or other bulk or large-file processing experience.
  • OAuth2/OIDC and JWT implementation experience with Okta, Cognito, or similar systems, including machine-to-machine credentials and tenant-scoped authorization.
  • Deep expertise in XML, XML Schema Definition, JSON, and complex nested structures.
  • Experience using AWS SDK v2 from application code with S3, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB, KMS, or Secrets Manager.
  • Observability ownership involving structured logging, distributed tracing, service-level objectives, and alerting in Datadog or an equivalent platform.
  • Experience building software under audit or compliance constraints with traceability and auditability designed in.
  • Comfort making changes to Terraform or Kubernetes manifests for owned services.
  • Experience with document or PDF generation, templating, or transactional email delivery.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or AWS Associate certification.

What believers are saying

  • Anza's 2026 hiring shows active buildout across data science, systems, and operations.
  • NC DOI found no material adverse findings and confirmed minimum capital compliance.
  • Its technology-first stack targets faster processing, fewer exceptions, and better lender service.

What critics are saying

  • Anza still cannot write business until GSE approval and $500 million capitalization land.
  • The North Carolina license remains restricted to no direct or assumed business.
  • If GSE approval slips past 2026, Anza stays pre-revenue and employee retention weakens.

What makes Anza Mortgage Insurance unique

  • Anza rebuilt mortgage insurance infrastructure in-house, not as a legacy carrier retrofit.
  • Anza aligns underwriting directly with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac without extra overlays.
  • Anza hired mortgage-insurance operators and ML engineers to automate decisions and workflows.
