Requirements
  • Possess a nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduate from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse program.
  • Possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse in California.
  • Hold current CPR certification.
  • Maintain all required continuing education and licensing and remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English, and read technical procedures and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees, and communicate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of residents.
  • Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, and laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to nursing care facilities.
  • Possess leadership and supervisory ability and be willing to supervise other personnel.
  • Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary to provide quality care.
  • Seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Meet the facility’s general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Move intermittently throughout the workday and push, pull, move, or carry at least 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and distance of 50 feet.
  • Assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations when necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure that nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Plan shift services, programs, activities, staffing, and work assignments, and provide leadership to nursing personnel.
  • Maintain nursing procedures manuals, complete required reports and forms, and coordinate nursing services with other resident services.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete associated records, forms, census reports, and documentation.
  • Review and maintain resident discharge plans and assist with discharge planning and transportation.
  • Receive physician telephone orders, transcribe orders, maintain charts, and document nursing care and resident responses.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments, maintain medication supplies and narcotic records, and report discrepancies.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations and make staffing, transfer, and dismissal recommendations to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Make daily rounds, monitor assigned personnel, ensure care is provided according to resident care plans, and report problem areas.
  • Orient residents, families, and new employees; provide and participate in staff training and continuing education.
  • Provide or oversee nursing procedures including catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital-sign measurement, and range-of-motion exercises.
  • Monitor residents’ physical and emotional status, notify physicians and next of kin of changes or incidents, and coordinate diagnostic, therapeutic, restorative, and rehabilitative services.
  • Maintain clean and safe nursing areas, enforce hand hygiene and infection-control procedures, and ensure use of personal protective equipment and safety equipment.
  • Maintain adequate medication, medical supply, and equipment stock; monitor safe equipment operation and efficient supply use.
  • Review and update resident care plans, ensure certified nursing assistants follow them, and assist with the Minimum Data Set assessment process.
  • Participate in quality assurance, facility surveys, infection-control programs, safety drills, incident reporting, and fraud reporting.
  • Protect resident health information and facility system credentials, report unauthorized access, and ensure workstations are secured.
  • Handle post-mortem procedures, notify families of resident deaths, and contact funeral homes when requested.
  • Attend required facility, safety, infection-control, advance-directive, and continuing-education programs.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. He previously held CFO roles at Capital Senior Living Corporation, managing 128 communities across 23 states, and Belo Corp. He succeeds Mark Hancock, PACS's co-founder and executive vice chairman, who will retire by 30 June 2026 whilst remaining on the board as vice chairman. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Under his leadership, the company expanded to 323 facilities across 17 states, serving over 31,700 patients daily and generating $5.29 billion in revenue in 2025, representing 29.3% year-on-year growth. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
