  • Prior to the start of employment, you must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but you do need to meet New York state certification eligibility requirements. To meet these requirements, you must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during your employment with us if you do not have a degree in education. Uncommon Schools teachers are required to become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment.
Responsibilities
  • Modify, differentiate, and teach an inclusive curriculum that emphasizes diversity
  • Collaborate with families and Special Education teams to develop 504 and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that offer appropriate accommodations and modifications
  • Create an inclusive and safe environment where students feel empowered to become self-guided learners
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, school leaders, and families to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments and ensure compliance with Individualized Education Plans
  • Manage a caseload of IEPs, including gathering academic growth data, writing IEPs, and participating in IEP meetings
  • Teach pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one instruction and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom
  • Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard
  • Partner with students’ families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their child's learning needs
  • Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions
  • Participate in weekly, school-wide meetings to cultivate community, model our core values, and encourage student achievement
  • Partner with your grade level team to develop academic goals and practice instructional strategies

Mar 18 2026 HANOVER, NH - SAU 70 and the Dresden School District are pleased to announce the appointment of Timothy O'Leary as the new principal of the Frances C. Richmond Middle School, effective July 1, 2026. O'Leary brings fifteen years of experience in education, including teacher development, instructional coaching, and data analysis. Most recently, Timothy served as Principal at the Roxbury Preparatory Charter School, where he achieved year-over-year MCAS growth across all tested subjects for five consecutive years. O'Leary began his career at Oxbow High School, in Bradford, Vermont. "We are excited to welcome Timothy to Frances C. Richmond Middle School," said Robin Steiner, Superintendent of SAU 70. "Throughout the interview process, Timothy demonstrated a strong commitment to student success, a collaborative leadership style, and a clear vision for fostering an inclusive and engaging school environment." Timothy holds a Master of Arts from Dartmouth College. O'Leary has a deep commitment to literacy instruction, adolescent development, and inclusive classroom practice. The selection process included input from staff, families, and community members, whose feedback played an important role in the decision.
