Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Typically, 10 or more years of progressive experience in roadway design engineering is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities are required.
  • The candidate must be able to maintain and enhance client relationships.
  • Experience with project management and accounting software is required.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software and tools for design, project management, and analysis is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of engineers and design technicians, providing mentorship and guidance to junior-level engineers and other team members and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Serve as a project manager for Illinois Department of Transportation, Missouri Department of Transportation, and local agency roadway design projects.
  • Oversee and participate in project execution from initiation to completion, monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Perform quality checks on project team members' work.
  • Provide leadership in the planning, design, and execution of major projects.
  • Prepare project documents and designs, conduct analyses, interpret data, and plan and coordinate engineering work for timely project delivery.
  • Review and approve project deliverables, including drawings and specifications.
  • Serve as a technical expert in roadway design.
  • Identify process-improvement opportunities and implement measures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and work quality.
  • Maintain and enhance client relationships and collaborate with senior management on strategic planning and business development.
  • Prepare proposals and funding applications.

  • Experience on Department of Transportation roadway projects is highly desirable.
