Requirements
  • Strong Rust experience, or serious C++ or systems experience combined with the curiosity to develop deeply in Rust.
  • Solid systems fundamentals in memory, performance, and concurrency, including profiling before optimization and the ability to explain how a performance issue was diagnosed and improved.
  • A track record of building non-trivial software from scratch and explaining it end to end.
  • A required portfolio, such as a GitHub portfolio.
Responsibilities
  • Build the application itself as a full-stack Rust engineer working end to end.
  • Own major features from design through shipping and work across the whole stack.
  • Develop deeply interactive, low-latency editing tools, including auto-routing, placement, measurement, annotation, and immediate error detection.
  • Design and implement a document model that supports source-code-like diffing and merging while enabling real-time collaboration.
  • Build the synchronization engine that streams edits between clients with eventual consistency, high-bandwidth streaming, and correctness.
  • Own decisions about wire-format decoding into owned data versus zero-copy representations for very large designs.
  • Build a GPU canvas that renders millions of polygons smoothly using spatial indexing, culling, and level of detail in a shared Rust code path for web and native.
  • Develop interactive simulation visualization with streaming waveforms and fast interactive analysis alongside heavier background analysis.
  • Contribute to the plugin system based on sandboxed WebAssembly components, the scripting API, and integrations that send completed designs to the fabrication facility.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with game, engine, or real-time systems, including entity-component systems, scene graphs, spatial indexing, physics engines, frame budgets, graphical user interfaces, or low-latency input.
  • Electrical engineering experience, including analog and digital electronics.
  • Experience using deep, complex software such as Blender, Ableton, KiCad, computer-aided design tools, digital audio workstations, or game engines.
  • Distributed or real-time systems experience with write-ahead logs, event sourcing, replication, conflict-free replicated data types, operational transformation, WebSockets, or data pipelines.
  • Experience with geometry, graph, and routing algorithms; spatial data structures; and optimization.
  • Familiarity with schema evolution and serialization formats such as Protocol Buffers, FlatBuffers, or Cap’n Proto.
  • Graphics and visualization experience, including custom rendering, shaders, and GPU pipelines such as WebGPU, Vulkan, or OpenGL.
  • Interest in version control beyond using Git, including understanding how it works internally.

Fab2 is building a compact semiconductor fabrication facility to produce chips for smartphones, computers, and other electronics. The facility runs semiconductor manufacturing, using in-house tools and processes to create smaller, more efficient chips with advanced geometries. The business sells manufactured chips to tech companies and may offer fabrication services to others, providing both product sales and contract manufacturing.
