Requirements
  • At least ILR level 2 English proficiency as measured by a Department of Defense test.
  • A Test of English as a Foreign Language score of 553 on the paper-based test, or an internet-based score of at least 83 overall and at least 20 in reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
  • A score of no less than 82 on the English Comprehension Level test.
  • At least proficiency level 2 or Advanced-Low on an Oral Proficiency Interview under the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages scale.
  • General professional proficiency of ILR level 2+ or Advanced-High, or higher, in Egyptian Arabic.
  • Target-language proficiency demonstrated through an Oral Proficiency Interview or two-skill Oral Proficiency Interview from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, an interview certified by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, or a Defense Language Proficiency Test.
  • A minimum of 80 documented hours of training in online language teaching.
  • Candidates must take and pass the foreign-language test.
  • Candidates may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Government in managing all aspects of the unit’s foreign language, regional expertise, and cultural training.
  • Execute planned programs of instruction and ad hoc tutoring sessions, teaching the language curriculum according to the designated program of instruction.
  • Develop daily lesson plans at least one day before delivery, take attendance, document students’ learning and behavior progress, and develop weekly progress reports.
  • Develop, review, correct, and grade daily homework, and provide weekly feedback to the Site Lead and program-of-instruction analyst for weekly assessments and quizzes.
  • Review, distribute, and grade weekly assessments and quizzes.
  • Maintain a positive and professional learning environment, address student behavior and attendance concerns with the Site Lead, and use designated or Government-approved instructional materials.
  • Collaborate with the Site Lead, program-of-instruction analyst, and Language Instructional Developer to address student and curriculum gaps.
  • Provide instruction in listening, reading, writing, and speaking, as well as regional and cultural subjects, using modern communicative methodology.
  • Integrate Smart Boards, Blackboard, Rapid Rote, SharePoint, the Internet, iPads, tablet PCs, and other Government-provided devices into classroom instruction and homework assignments.
  • Develop learning materials as required and use computer skills to organize data and teaching materials.
