Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • A practical nursing diploma or certificate from an accredited community college program, with the required medication administration and intravenous medication administration education or certificates.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and expertise in caring for seniors and their families.
  • Ability to function within the full scope of nursing practice according to College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with patients, clients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work in response to client and patient needs.
  • Knowledge of patient transfers and lifts.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, internet searches, data entry, and patient information systems.
  • Excellent work performance and attendance record.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care for clients through supportive, preventive, therapeutic, palliative, and rehabilitation means to promote health, assess care needs, and attain or maintain optimal function.
  • Practice according to professional values, organizational policies and procedures, and College of Nurses standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses to ensure safe and effective care.
  • Provide care for less complex clients whose outcomes are more predictable and whose risk of negative outcomes is low.
  • Recognize changes in client acuity or complexity and consult with a Registered Nurse to determine next steps.
Desired Qualifications
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training.
  • At least one year of recent related clinical nursing experience in acute medical nursing.
  • Knowledge and experience with telemetry monitoring and focused clinical assessment.
