General Description:
In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team developing novel processing and structures for electromagnetic motors and curved imaging systems. This position is located at our Malibu, CA office.
Essential Duties:
Design, build and test prototypes, including novel electric motor components and cryogenically-cooled cameras
Design electro-thermo-mechanical test systems to test material behavior and components in relevant environments
Select appropriate materials based on relevant properties and compatibility with the environment during process and deployment
Create CAD models and drawings
Fabricate and assemble samples, fixtures and prototypes
Conduct engineering analysis of components and assemblies, using methods such as finite element analysis (e.g. Abaqus), and simplified hand calculations for structural, thermal, and electrical performance estimates
Test samples and assemblies
Work with the machine shop to fabricate components
Work with outside vendors and suppliers to source materials, services, and components for prototyping and low-rate initial production
Lead and mentor junior engineers
Communicate findings to scientifically-minded but non subject matter experts
Summarize findings in written reports
Required Skills:
Mechanical design with CAD tools (e.g. Solidworks)
Expertise with analysis and test of thermal, mechanical and electrical components.
General knowledge of applied material properties.
Creative problem solving and strong organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills; includes both oral and written.
Ability to work well in a team environment and work in a matrix organization.
Ability to operate independently
Prior programming background (python, Matlab), electronics prototyping knowledge (Arduino, National Instruments) or finite element analysis (COMSOL, Abaqus) is a plus.
Required Education:
BA/BS or Master’s degree in engineering or physical sciences
+5 years of experience
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work for extended periods while standing or sitting at a computer workstation.
Must be familiar with safe chemical handling practices and common laboratory safety procedures.
Must be sufficiently mobile, have visual and hearing acuity, and manual dexterity to work within a laboratory environment.
Must be on-site at least 4 days a week.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $120,715 - $150,895 + bonus + benefits.
