Requirements
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of technical experience, preferably in a space operations environment.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and radio frequency communications systems from first principles, including systems architecture, antennas, signal processing, and radio frequency propagation.
  • Familiarity with communications technology in the aerospace and space industries.
  • Experience developing and validating radio frequency link budget system models.
  • Knowledge of key noise and linearity parameters for radio frequency systems and their impact on system performance.
  • Familiarity with radio frequency and electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, vector network analyzers, and noise sources.
  • Ability to develop design documentation.
  • Team leadership experience and strong team and inter-team cooperation and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong understanding of audience.
  • Ability to multitask in a startup, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently as a self-starter and manage complex projects from conception to completion.

Responsibilities
  • Perform communications system design and analysis, testing, debugging, data analysis, and support for flight hardware design.
  • Perform functional analyses, including link, power, and throughput analyses, detailed trade studies, and interface definition efforts to translate initial requirements into concepts and detailed, qualified designs.
  • Identify the space-segment and ground-segment hardware necessary to support payload and telemetry transmission across mission concepts of operations and orbital parameters.
  • Create dedicated test setups and procedures for antenna checkout, radio peripheral checkout, cable and phasing network checkout, ground station compatibility testing, channel simulation testing, regulatory testing, and end-to-end full radio frequency system testing.
  • Work hands-on with digital and analog radio frequency equipment, including radios, antennas, analog-to-digital converters, and ground support equipment.
  • Support production testers in developing and executing test plans that ensure adequate testing of units and the complete system.
  • Interface with suppliers and vendors to support subsystem procurement, design, development, and production.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and production teams to design and test satellite systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Support analysis and troubleshooting of in-orbit communication challenges and advise on operational concepts of operations and performance.
  • Manage competing priorities and individual tasks toward larger company and team objectives.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with avionics and antenna installation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of radiation effects on electronics.
  • Experience with requirements and verification database management tools such as Jama and DOORS.
  • Knowledge of the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems communications standard and Advanced Encryption Standard/Galois/Counter Mode encryption.
  • Experience with DVB-S2/S2X.
  • Experience with test automation and efficient data processing using LabVIEW, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Experience writing software for data analysis and test execution using Python, MATLAB, or Bash, and developing test scripts to interface with hardware.
  • Knowledge of radio frequency licensing procedures or other radio frequency regulatory experience.
  • Ability to balance system-level thinking with detailed problem solving.
