Requirements
  • A degree in Medical Dosimetry from an institution within the United States is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to perform the contract work.
  • Board Therapy and Certified Medical Dosimetrist certification through the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board is required.
  • Registration as an ARRT Registered Technologist in Radiation Therapy is required.
  • At least five years of experience within the last year working as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist is required.
  • Experience with Varian ARIA/Eclipse is required.
  • Experience creating external beam treatment plans with Varian Eclipse and Philips Pinnacle is required.
  • Experience with Volumetric Arc Therapy is required.
  • Experience with Image Guided Radiotherapy is required.
  • Experience with Stereotactic Radiosurgery is required.
  • Experience with Stereotactic Body Radiosurgery is required.
  • The worker must obtain documentation of required physical testing or a physical examination.
  • The worker must complete tuberculosis screening and provide documentation of required immunizations, annual vaccinations, and physical examinations when required.
  • The worker must be able to stand for prolonged periods and maintain professional hygiene and appearance.
  • The position is subject to a background or security investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop specialized treatment-planning programs for comprehensive radiation therapy management of malignant tumors.
  • Advise physicians on the appropriateness of treatment techniques using comparative and mathematical methodologies.
  • Devise alternative treatment strategies for each patient and advise physicians on their relative merits to optimize the strategy selected for radiation oncology patients.
  • Communicate and coordinate with healthcare team members regarding how radiation treatment and planning will be carried out.
  • Perform routine quality-control tests on the linear accelerator, simulator, and associated equipment.
  • Perform all dosimetry treatment planning, including external-beam treatment planning and treatment delivery with Varian Eclipse IMRT/VMAT.
  • Deliver Varian Eclipse IMRT/VMAT treatment plans within the timeframes requested by the requesting provider.
  • Support the Chief Therapist in solving problems involving complex treatment setups.
  • Perform clinical dosimetry measurements.
  • Check charts of patients under treatment for completeness and accuracy and verify treatment parameters.
  • Maintain the ARIA patient database.
  • Assist in fabricating treatment blocks and patient-positioning devices.
  • Use radiation therapy equipment properly and demonstrate capability and efficiency in operating it.
  • Support the Medical Physicist with quality assurance in treatment planning.
  • Support the Radiation Oncologist with contouring normal anatomy and other treatment-planning tasks assigned by the physician.
  • Participate in staff education on the basics of treatment planning when requested.
