Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in a customer-focused or service setting are required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer use is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Assist providers during examinations under general direction from Nursing Leadership.
  • Perform clinical, procedural, and information-systems tasks supporting patient care in outpatient clinics.
  • Apply clinical knowledge while assisting providers and adapt to patient complexity.
  • Attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment, including a dynamap, pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram, cardiac monitor, and pneumatic tourniquet.
  • Provide information, comfort, and care during examinations; explain next steps, systems, and status; ensure supplies and equipment are available; and provide provider-prepared discharge instructions.
  • Maintain the correct number and type of supplies in examination rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are available according to provider preferences.
  • Support efficient room utilization and minimize patient wait times.
  • Escort patients to examination areas, obtain vital signs, perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection as ordered, and label, log, and process specimens according to protocol and laboratory policies.
  • Enter patient data, condition, and care provided into the electronic medical record system; perform assigned administrative duties such as scheduling and registration.
  • Maintain clinical equipment and medical supply levels by reordering, stocking, cleaning, conducting inventory, rotating stock, monitoring expiration dates, requisitioning supplies, reconciling deliveries, tracking utilization, and addressing back orders with the purchasing department.
  • Recommend opportunities to reduce equipment and supply costs.
  • Implement standard infection-prevention measures, monitor for breaches, and suggest or initiate corrective actions.
  • With registered nurse oversight, precept new employees by explaining area requirements and ensuring competence in area practices.
  • Assist providers with patient processes as a surgical procedure assistant when needed.
  • Prepare rooms and instrumentation for procedures, provide basic patient instructions, anticipate provider needs, obtain additional instrumentation, prepare and label specimens, dress wounds, calibrate equipment, set up sterile fields, prepare instrument trays, sterilize instruments, and review provider-prepared discharge instructions.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
