Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support/Healthcare Provider certification within 30 days of hire.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Must maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and standards.
  • Must comply with all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Must complete mandatory training.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan.
Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with hygiene, mobility, hydration, elimination, and nutritional needs.
  • Provide routine treatments and maintain a safe, clean, neat, and organized patient environment.
  • Maintain the safety and security of patients, families, self, and other healthcare team members.
  • Protect patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follow standard precautions and wash hands between patients.
  • Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and food and fluid intake and output as directed.
  • Obtain data and accurately document pertinent patient information according to hospital policies and guidelines.
  • Recognize and communicate relevant information and safety concerns about the patient’s condition to the registered nurse or other healthcare team members.
  • Participate in handoff reports and purposeful hourly patient rounding.
  • Provide service and care to patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Demonstrate competency in tasks and skills defined by hospital and unit-specific competencies.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, safe, and organized nursing unit.
  • Receive and process incoming phone calls, patient call lights, and guest requests.
  • Transport and deliver items, equipment, blood products, and medications throughout the facility, excluding controlled substances and intravenous chemotherapy drugs.
  • Attend hospital and unit staff meetings and in-service sessions according to policy.
  • Participate in assigned nursing performance-improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Utilize time and resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess patient-status data and interpret information needed to identify age-specific patient requirements.
