Requirements
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree program, with communications, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan and administer programs and direct program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through four years of related experience.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate strategic planning toward the principal investigator's program goals, coordinate all teams related to the principal investigator's research, and provide leadership for all study teams.
  • Plan and participate in meetings with the principal investigator and study team members to ensure research metrics and goals are planned for and met.
  • Provide oversight for developing and implementing standard operating protocols, procedures, and policies for projects within the program.
  • Prepare applications for external and internal grants and contracts, including developing budgets.
  • Administer departmental grants and contracts in accordance with university policies and sponsors' requirements concerning records, reports, controls, and expenditure conditions.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure grants are submitted on time.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for funded grants, including ensuring budgets are adhered to, regulatory documents are current, and federal and Duke research regulatory guidelines are followed.
  • Correspond with interested students and other universities to provide information about program activities, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare fiscal-year budget recommendations for the principal investigator's research portfolio, including external grant contracts and internal funding.
  • Monitor, verify, and reconcile budgeted expenditures for the principal investigator's research portfolio, including National Institutes of Health-funded grants, philanthropic donations, and internal funding.
  • Direct personnel actions, including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
  • Report directly to the principal investigator and oversee or supervise 4–7 staff members working on the principal investigator's research projects.
