Disney's ABC sues FCC over licence investigation as judge delays hearing until October

Disney's ABC filed a First Amendment lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission on 18 August, calling the agency's investigation a "retaliatory campaign". A federal judge rejected Disney's request for an urgent hearing on 20 August, setting a filing deadline of 24 September and a hearing in early October instead. The FCC agreed to give ABC at least 48 hours' notice before referring its licences for a hearing, removing the risk of sudden action. Commissioner Anna Gomez has publicly sided with ABC. Disney reported strong Q3 results, with companywide revenue growing 7% to $25.2 billion and segment operating income rising 21% to $5.6 billion. Disney Experiences hit a record $9.97 billion, up 10%. The licence review remains active with no resolution date.

Disney fired Gina Carano... but not Mark Ruffalo?

Disney fired Gina Carano... but not Mark Ruffalo? In Hollywood, ideology determines who gets canceled. August 28, 2026 Disney fired fan favorite Gina Carano for the dumbest reason possible. And the least responsible. She pointed to the growing anti-Jewish sentiment in 1930s Germany, comparing it to how conservatives were being "othered" in America. "Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?" she wrote. Overheated? Prescient? Either way, the comments were neither vicious nor remotely antisemitic. A thousand celebrities have said a thousand worse things without a single repercussion. Disney dumped her anyway. Carano later sued the Mouse House, and the parties settled their differences out of court. That unfair chapter of Hollywood history came to mind via a very different celebrity. Actor Mark Ruffalo, a regular in Disney's MCU franchise as the rampaging Hulk, caught heat for comments deemed antisemitic. It wasn't a few click-happy bloggers or Instagram accounts, mind you, but groups like The Brigade that castigated the star for slamming the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The Brigade consists of "nearly 1,000 members, friends, and allies of the Jewish community who are proud to be working in film, television, music, Broadway, social and digital, and other platforms in and around the entertainment industry," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ruffalo isn't alone in La La Land for opposing the Hollywood mega-merger. His attempt to lasso Israel into the dispute, though, was. The actor posted a video targeting Jewish Paramount board member Safra Catz, saying she "revels in... genocide," an obvious reference to Israel's defensive war against Hamas following the Oct. 7 attacks. He added that the Ellisons, who own Paramount and are Jewish, are "crushing workers and consolidating the wealth of the world for their own power." The group called out Ruffalo for deploying "antisemitic tropes" in his critiques. Paramount Skydance officially blasted the star, too, for his "appalling and fundamentally dishonest" verbiage. The Simon Wiesenthal Center and Creative Communities For Peace also lashed out against Ruffalo. Jim Berk, CEO of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, said the actor had crossed a bright red line. "Words matter, and so does the willingness to draw a line when legitimate debate gives way to antisemitic tropes." Ruffalo has aggressively defended himself against the charges, as have fellow far-left actors Hannah Einbinder and John Cusack. Now, what? This isn't a single social media post. It's a series of comments that drew sizable outrage from major figures in entertainment and culture. So American Greatness'll be seeing a new Hulk actor soon, right? Hardly. Ruffalo just appeared in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a Sony feature film that is part of Disney's larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. He won't star in Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters this December, but he could reappear as Dr. Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, in Avengers: Secret Wars, coming in late 2027. Disney hasn't officially cut ties with the actor, nor has the studio publicly commented on his allegedly antisemitic comments. Actors shouldn't necessarily be fired for having the wrong opinions, even those that teeter on the edge of idiocy. Yet that's the world Hollywood helped create in recent years. Still, what's the difference between Carano and Ruffalo, beyond the more insidious nature of Ruffalo's comments? Why did one trigger a swift dismissal, and the other hasn't sparked any response? It's simple. Ideology. Carano wasn't an openly conservative star at the time of her dismissal, but she questioned elements of the COVID-19 protocols and the explosion of personal pronouns and other subjects that clashed with progressive groupthink. That slapped a target on her back. Ruffalo is one of the most stridently progressive stars in Hollywood. That offers him a robust defense against any such accusations. That means he'll likely play the big, green guy for as long as he wants to cash those Disney checks.

Disney sets global release date for Korean fantasy drama The Remarried Empress.

Disney sets global release date for Korean fantasy drama The Remarried Empress. The star-studded adaptation of the three-billion-view webtoon will screen at the Busan International Film Festival ahead of its worldwide streaming launch. The global streaming market continues to look toward South Korean television for high-budget speculative fiction. Disney+ has confirmed an official premiere date of 4 November 2026 for its ten-part fantasy romance The Remarried Empress, which will stream internationally on Disney+ and on Hulu in the United States. Before arriving on home screens, the series will receive a world premiere at the 31st Busan International Film Festival, running from 6 to 15 October 2026. Festival organisers will screen the first three episodes, running a combined 151 minutes, as part of the prestige On Screen sidebar dedicated to high-profile broadcast series. A royal divorce sparks a continental rivalry. Adapted from the hit Naver Webtoon that has accumulated nearly three billion views worldwide, the series follows the political and domestic fallout within the Eastern Kingdom. Shin Min-a stars as Empress Navier, a respected monarch whose marriage fractures when her husband, Emperor Sovieshu, played by Ju Ji-hoon, falls in love with an escaped slave named Rashta, portrayed by Lee Se-young. When the Emperor demands a divorce to elevate Rashta to the throne, Navier agrees on one non-negotiable condition: Sovieshu must grant her permission to remarry Crown Prince Heinrey of the rival Western Kingdom, played by Lee Jong-suk. This calculated move triggers a fierce power struggle between the two realms, set against lavish European locations, opulent palace architectures, and intricate court politics. Experienced hands behind the scenes. The project brings together several of South Korea's most reliable television creators. Cho Su-won, whose directing portfolio includes popular titles such as Still 17 and Pinocchio, directs all ten episodes. Screenwriters Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choong-yeol, known for their work on The Uncanny Counter, handled the adaptation. The four-lead ensemble features extensive award credentials. Shin Min-a leads the cast following her work in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and No Gain No Love. Ju Ji-hoon brings substantial experience from Kingdom and Light Shop, while Lee Jong-suk and Lee Se-young return to historical and fantasy formats after leading Big Mouth and The Red Sleeve. Disney+ will launch the production with a four-episode drop on 4 November 2026, followed by two new episodes every Wednesday through to the finale on 25 November 2026. Jun kit man. Disney, NFL partner for apparel collaboration.

Disney, NFL partner for apparel collaboration. By Bob D'Angelo, Cox Media Group National Content Desk August 25, 2026 at 1:28 pm EDT Calling your favorite NFL team a Mickey Mouse squad will no longer have a negative connotation. The Walt Disney Co. announced on Monday that it is teaming with the NFL, Champion and Fanatics on a new apparel collection. The offering will pair an NFL team with a character across the Disney, Pixar, Marvel and "Star Wars" platforms, The apparel was released in limited quantities - eight teams were showcased - through the Disney Fan Draft at Fanatics Fest NYC on July 16, according to a news release. On Monday, the line of apparel was expanded to include T-shirts, crewnecks and fleece silhouettes for all 32 NFL teams. There are sizes for men, women and youths, with prices ranging from $29 for youth T-shirts to $119.99 for select sweatshirts, Variety reported. Here are some examples of the team-character pairings: * Atlanta Falcons - "Star Wars" Millennium Falcon; * Carolina Panthers - Disney's Bagheera ; * Cincinnati Bengals - Disney's Shere Khan; * Cleveland Browns - Disney's Pluto ; * Jacksonville Jaguars - Disney and Pixar's Pepita; * Miami Dolphins - Disney's King Triton; * New England Patriots - Marvel's Captain America; * Pittsburgh Steelers - Disney's Pete ; * Seattle Seahawks - Disney and Pixar's "Mine, Mine, Mine" Seagulls ; * Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Disney's Captain Hook Disney certainly put some thought into its pairings, according to Variety. Thor, the ultimate Viking character, is a perfect match for the Minnesota Vikings. The Cleveland Browns' pairing with Pluto is a respectful nod toward the team's rabid "Dawg Pound." And from Dawgs to Hogs - the Commanders' pairing with "Toy Story's" Hamm pays tribute to Washington's famed offensive line from the 1980s. Meanwhile, the New York Jets feature Buzz Lightyear, while the Las Vegas Raiders maintain the franchise's sinister image by joining up with "Star Wars'" Darth Vader. "Every pairing was inspired by the qualities, traditions and fan culture that define each NFL team, as well as the shared personalities, traits and stories that connect these teams with beloved Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters," Bret Healey, director of graphic design for Disney Consumer Products, said in a statement. "The result is a collection that feels authentic to fans while celebrating the passion behind both fandoms." The collaboration pumps up the presence of Disney and ESPN around the NFL, Variety reported. The companies are celebrating the "Year of the Super Bowl," with ESPN hosting the NFL's marquee game for the first time. Super Bowl LXI will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Feb. 14, 2027, and will air on ESPN and ABC. (C) 2026 Cox Media Group
