Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of leadership experience in a retail or customer service setting.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to motivate and lead associates storewide in a fair and impartial manner.
  • Strong analytical skills, delegation ability, and self-direction.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Technical proficiency with basic retail computer systems and related software.
  • The ability to develop and maintain client relationships and strategic partnerships.
  • A valid in-state driver's license with an acceptable driving record under the company's insurance standards.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods, walk, reach, and bend to perform job duties.
  • The ability to move and handle merchandise and fixtures weighing up to 40 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Operate the store's day-to-day activities in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Maximize store sales and profitability while minimizing expenses and ensuring the store is optimally stocked and merchandised.
  • Hire, train, and develop store staff, provide ongoing performance feedback, and recognize accomplishments.
  • Review store evaluations with the management team and staff, identify opportunities, and correct issues promptly.
  • Supervise staff to ensure sales performance goals are met and company procedures are followed accurately.
  • Delegate workload among associates to meet merchandising and visual presentation standards.
  • Participate in associate evaluations to provide feedback, recognition, and growth opportunities.
  • Complete merchandising updates according to company standards.
  • Work with vendors to develop product merchandising strategies and assist with planogram updates.
  • Forecast scheduling needs, create work schedules, and monitor payroll against established budgets.
  • Review staffing needs with the Store Manager and human resources/operations directors before additions, promotions, or terminations.
  • Develop and implement in-store marketing strategies, including promotions, events, and seasonal merchandising.
  • Promote customer service by observing, monitoring, and coaching associate performance and customer interactions.
  • Teach the company's customer-service standard while leading by example and coaching associates.
  • Use huddles, communication boards, and store meetings to communicate performance and educate, engage, and motivate the team.
  • Ensure customers are acknowledged, their needs are met, and concerns are resolved quickly.
  • Review customer-service measurement reports and work with the team to improve service levels.
  • Document at least one observation per associate monthly and provide coaching for consistent customer service.
  • Maintain accurate inventory through on-hand integrity, receiving, transfers, store communication, product mix and flow, and compliance with company practices, metrics, and deadlines.
  • Use inventory reports to reduce shrinkage, maintain stock levels, and maximize inventory accuracy.
  • Pursue professional development through leadership training, local business events, company learning, and industry events.
  • Identify appropriate training and oversee training requirements for all associates, including new-hire orientation, on-the-job training, and vendor training.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures and serve as a safety role model.
  • Enforce store-environment procedures to maintain store appearance.
  • Conduct preventive safety and fire inspections and take corrective action.
