Requirements
  • Master's degree in nursing is required
  • A practice doctorate degree in nursing (Doctor of Nursing Practice) or related field is preferred
  • Previous experience in teaching is preferred, such as hospital staff development or clinical education, but is not required
  • Current/unencumbered Texas Registered Nurse license
  • Current healthcare provider Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification

  • Physical Abilities: The ability to maneuver in work assignments necessary to carry out the duties of nursing faculty including adjunct settings to which assigned. Ability to access and procure emergency materials when indicated, ability to demonstrate gross and fine motor skills sufficient to provide instruction and demonstration of safe nursing care. Ability to maintain adjunct supervision for up to 10 students for 9 hours two days a week and ability to assist students in the care of clients in the adjunct setting to which assigned in acute care and the community.
Responsibilities
  • Provide didactic and clinical instruction including simulated clinical experiences offered in laboratory environments, in-person or virtual delivery
  • Develop and implement instructional strategies including traditional lectures and distributed media across synchronous or asynchronous modalities
  • Evaluate the impact of teaching on student competencies, student satisfaction, and peer feedback, and other evidence of student outcomes
  • Meet regularly with full-time faculty assigned to lead the course or participate in the course management team and/or the associate/assistant dean
  • Identify agency partners with potential clinical placements for students
  • Deliver clinical instruction involving assignment, supervision and evaluation of clinical skills and direct client care delivered by nursing students
  • Demonstrate clinical competency to teach by documentation of current clinical practice relevant to instructional assignment, certification by a nationally recognized professional organization in a clinical specialty, and/or other negotiated mechanisms
  • Participate in an orientation provided by the program director and/or track manager
  • Assist in evaluating clinical sites and making recommendations about engaging in new or renewed memoranda of understanding or contracts with clinical agencies
  • Review the College of Nursing’s philosophy, goals and instructional objectives and performance expectations of the students, and assist full-time faculty in aligning clinical agency with these aspects
  • Be physically present in clinical facilities to provide adequate and safe instructional oversight and meet expectations of clinical partners and the Texas Board of Nursing
  • For undergraduate clinical instruction, meet in person periodically with students and preceptors in the clinical area to evaluate the quality of the experience and the proficiency level of the student
