Area Printing is a high-volume 3D metal printing technology for industrial production. It builds metal parts layer by layer from powder using a specialized additive process to produce complex components quickly and with lower costs and higher quality than traditional methods. It’s designed for large-scale manufacturing in sectors like automotive, aerospace, and construction, enabling digital, on-demand production and reducing the number of conventional fabrication steps. The approach emphasizes green manufacturing and local, resilient supply chains, aiming to lower CO2 emissions and bring metal production closer to end users.

What believers are saying

  • Secured $99M Series C in October 2023 from NVentures, Capricorn, and Honda.
  • Obtained seven letters of intent from automotive, aerospace, and energy firms.
  • Targets $150/kilogram costs by 2025 to match traditional manufacturing economics.

What critics are saying

  • Velo3D achieves $1-10/kg costs, capturing automotive and aerospace contracts now.
  • No funding or deployments announced since 2023 Series C exhausts cash reserves.
  • Desktop Metal's Spring platform at $150/kg seizes consumer electronics clients immediately.

What makes Seurat Technologies unique

  • Area Printing decouples resolution from speed for high-volume metal 3D printing.
  • Technology originated at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory with 275 patents.
  • Operates on 100% renewable energy to enable decarbonized industrial production.
