- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program and clinical rotation is required.
- Six months of phlebotomy and specimen processing experience is required.
- Perform standardized and specialized phlebotomy procedures on patients of all ages and ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling.
- Complete specimen receiving and processing, load specimens onto instruments or perform kit testing, and perform associated instrument maintenance, including temperature and reagent monitoring.
- Perform clerical duties including filing, mailing, and faxing.
- Complete patient check-in and enter laboratory test orders in the laboratory information system.
- Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.
- Float to UW Health clinics based on operational needs.
- One year of experience in phlebotomy and processing is preferred.
- Phlebotomist certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent is preferred.
- Medical Laboratory Assistant certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent is preferred.
