Requirements
  • Proven success leading the technical development of complex electromechanical products through volume production, with personal ownership of system-level outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in systems engineering, including requirements definition and management, interface control, verification and validation planning, and configuration management.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience with progression into senior technical leadership roles such as Chief Engineer, Systems Architect, or Principal Engineer.
  • A bachelor's or graduate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience operating with high levels of ambiguity and converting it into clear, executable technical direction.
  • Fluency in requirements management and product lifecycle management tooling such as Jama, DOORS, Flow, Duro, Arena, or equivalent.
  • A multidisciplinary technical foundation spanning electrical, mechanical, thermal, firmware, and software domains.
  • A track record of making difficult technical trade-offs under schedule and resource pressure while maintaining product integrity.
Responsibilities
  • Own the system architecture for the critical power product line, integrating electrical, mechanical, thermal, firmware, and software subsystems into a cohesive, manufacturable, and serviceable product.
  • Establish and maintain the product line requirements framework from customer and system-level requirements through subsystem and component specifications, ensuring traceability, testability, and configuration control.
  • Serve as the final technical decision authority for the product line and resolve cross-discipline trade-offs involving performance, cost, schedule, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Drive the verification and validation strategy, ensuring every requirement has a defined verification method and that test programs generate sufficient qualification evidence.
  • Partner with the Head of Product to translate customer needs, market inputs, and competitive realities into technical requirements.
  • Partner with the Head of Programs to align technical scope, dependencies, risks, and schedule decisions with engineering intent.
  • Lead design reviews, architecture reviews, and technical deep-dives across the organization.
  • Own the product line technical risk register, drive mitigation plans, and ensure accepted risks are visible and consciously chosen.
  • Represent the product line's technical position to customers, partners, and certifying bodies in external technical engagements.
  • Model and advocate for engineering excellence, intellectual honesty, and continuous improvement.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in startups or high-growth technology companies where the Chief Engineer role required hands-on depth alongside system-level leadership.
  • Experience bringing products through safety, environmental, or regulatory qualification programs such as UL, IEC, MIL-STD, ISO, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience mentoring and developing engineering talent across disciplines.

ZapBatt makes Lithium Titanate battery systems for fast charging, long lifespan, and high safety, selling battery packs in various sizes and offering custom solutions.
