Requirements
  • 10+ years of legal experience working on energy transactional and development matters
  • An end-to-end understanding of the project development process for a power plant from the legal perspective, and experience on general corporate and commercial matters
  • Excellent legal writing, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing and keeping organized complex legal projects
  • Operate within high pressure environments
  • Must be barred in any state or DC (bar not needed in WA to start so long as able to file for house counsel status upon starting)
Responsibilities
  • Negotiate agreements related to siting our first power plants, such as site lease or purchase agreements, power purchase agreements, financing agreements, and others
  • Develop the permitting pathway in Washington and other states for deployment of fusion power plants, and addressing novel legal issues that arise
  • Manage legal due diligence around site selection, interconnection, environmental, and other important project development questions
  • Use the lessons learned from building our first plants to develop a long-term strategy for deploying fusion power plants at scale, and then build a team to accomplish that plan
  • Support all corporate and commercial aspects of the business, including drafting corporate policies, improving governance internally and between affiliates, assisting in daily commercial negotiations, and providing legal advice for our operations teams
  • Draft substantial legal and non-legal documents such as applications to government agencies or project updates for public affairs outreach
  • Work with our Executive, Operations, Public Affairs, Safety, Policy, and Communications teams and others, building support across Helion on important decisions
