Requirements
  • Speak, write, and read proficiently in English.
  • Basic mathematical skills are required, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, division, and converting pounds to kilograms.
  • Solve practical problems in varied situations and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Office Windows, business websites such as SharePoint, Arcadia, One Health Portal, and Health Plan Finder, and proprietary software including electronic medical records, electrocardiogram monitors, and retinal cameras.
  • Be familiar with mental health and chemical dependency treatment.
  • Have good organizational and communication skills, maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries, work on a team, and give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for three years before employment and no misuse while employed.
  • Have no disqualifying felony, child-abuse, or physical-harm conviction history and must not be a perpetrator of substantiated child abuse.
  • Demonstrate respect and appreciation for diversity, understand the community system, and form and maintain effective relationships with clients, team members, and community providers.
  • Pass a Washington State Patrol background check and a satisfactory background check.
  • Sign a permanent oath of confidentiality covering client-related information.
  • Possess a Certified Nursing Assistant license issued by the Washington State Department of Health or a comparable certification from another state.
  • Possess a current First Aid Certificate.
  • Pass an annual competency test.
  • Pass pre-hire and annual employee health screening, including a tuberculosis test at hire and annually thereafter.
  • Have a valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification within 90 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
Responsibilities
  • Support psychiatric prescribers in administrative and clinical areas.
  • Coordinate care with mental health therapists and chemical dependency professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide screenings and case management in coordination with treatment teams and community parties.
  • Participate as a team member in delivering client services and coordinating community support services.
  • Assist with agency compliance with Washington Administrative Code, Revised Code of Washington, and other applicable laws, regulations, and contracts.
  • Prepare and organize charts, prescription refill requests, and other information required by the psychiatric prescriber.
  • Maintain medication storage, maintenance, dispensation, and waste logs according to organizational policies and procedures, and report noncompliance.
  • Ensure medical, nursing, health and safety, and personnel policies and procedures are followed and implemented.
  • Assist psychiatric staff with client flow and provide timely, quality care.
  • Complete routine checks and monitor clients for unusual or harmful behavior, reporting observations to psychiatric staff.
  • Prepare patients for provider visits by obtaining subjective data and vital signs and ensuring compliant charting.
  • Work as part of an integrated care team that may include psychiatrists, social workers, behavioral health professionals, chemical dependency professionals, and case managers.
  • Provide routine physical, emotional, psychological, or rehabilitation care to mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed clients under psychiatric staff direction.
  • Encourage client participation in social, educational, recreational, and employment activities.
  • Process medication refill requests from pharmacies, prepare requests for provider review and approval, and ensure prescriptions are faxed to pharmacies.
  • Check the electronic health record to validate requests, send valid refill requests to the prescriber, and communicate with pharmacies about invalid requests.
  • Check medication history in the electronic health record as requested by the prescriber.
  • Collaborate with the prescriber to determine next steps.
  • Handle client phone calls about medication side effects and refill status.
  • Facilitate client enrollment in prescription assistance programs.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and apply knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
  • Monitor medication effects and provide the psychiatrist with feedback about positive and negative side effects.
  • Screen for suicide risk, inform the psychiatric prescriber and mental health therapist, and provide follow-up care through case management and community support.
  • Maintain confidentiality, prevent splitting between staff and clients, and offer concrete approaches for challenging situations.
  • Advocate for clients and encourage cooperation with service plans or resolution of barriers such as transportation and language access.
  • Assist clients with service-access tasks, including forms, documentation, authorization, and transportation.
  • Make referrals based on identified needs and provide information for client self-referral to agencies and community services.
  • Maintain files documenting case-management activities as required by the state and agency.
  • Participate in regular interdisciplinary team case reviews.
  • Collaborate with staff to provide individualized, comprehensive services.
  • Welcome and orient new staff and visitors.
  • Maintain professional standards and follow agency treatment policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Complete daily records as directed by the program manager.
  • Report unusual incidents and suspected child or elder abuse or neglect as mandated by Washington Administrative Code.
  • Support a full-time medical doctor or advanced registered nurse practitioner provider seeing an average of 14 patients per day.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in writing and verbally, and immediately contact the provider when abnormal vital signs make a patient a priority.
  • Use aseptic technique.
  • Complete point-of-care referrals, including specialty care and care coordination, and provide referral information to specialist offices.
  • Assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with coworkers, specialists, and community organizations.
  • Ensure customer service at each patient visit, including escorting patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff and patients.
  • Use the nursing functions of the electronic health record and practice-management applications.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, Patient-Centered Medical Home, quality improvement, and contractual obligations.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation independently.
  • Measure and record fluid and food intake and output.
  • Recognize, respond to, and report clients' or residents' emotional, social, cultural, and mental health needs.
  • Address individual behavioral needs of clients or residents.
  • Perform duties under Washington Administrative Code 246-841-400 when applicable.
Desired Qualifications
  • The ability to speak and interpret in Spanish and/or Russian is preferred and may be required depending upon clinic needs.
