Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food and catering trends, food quality and production, sanitation, and food cost controls.
  • Ability to manage multiple food-preparation tasks while following quality procedures.
  • Ability to learn the structure and function of kitchen stations and departments, facilities, rooms, activities, services, and operating hours.
  • Ability to prepare and present food according to standard operating procedures and recipe guidelines.
  • Knowledge of food-serving methods, sanitation principles, and safe food-handling principles.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify potential problems, especially during high-volume demand.
  • Ability to follow safety, emergency, and accident-prevention procedures and use fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment.
  • At least one year of experience.
  • Fluent spoken, written, and read English.
  • Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and a rotating schedule.
  • Ability to obtain a Maricopa County Food Handler’s Card at personal expense before employment.
  • United States work authorization documents.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Ability to support the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook all food items according to standard operating procedures to ensure consistent quality.
  • Maintain sanitation standards according to standard operating procedures and Food and Drug Administration and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Prepare customer dishes, including special requests related to food allergies or intolerances.
  • Portion items according to standard operating procedures and recipe guidelines.
  • Restock items throughout the shift.
  • Return unused food to designated storage areas and cover and date perishable items.
  • Control food waste, loss, and usage according to standard operating procedures.
  • Identify ways to reduce food costs and waste.
  • Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents according to university and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
  • Assist in other kitchen or restaurant areas as needed.
  • Promote positive relationships through communication and cooperation with coworkers and guests.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in a high-volume or high-demand hospitality venue.
