Requirements
  • Proven experience as a welder.
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures, including tungsten inert gas and manual metal arc welding.
  • Experience using electrical or manual tools such as saws, squares, and calipers.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing such as a face shield and gloves.
  • Deftness and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
  • Fit, tack, and weld piece parts according to detail drawings, including steel channels, brackets, angles, sheathing, assemblies, and sub-assemblies.
  • Tack weld parts together in equipment while ensuring dimensions conform to specified drawings.
  • Weld complete assemblies according to specified welding standards.
  • Correct fabrication mistakes.
  • Incorporate approved design changes where necessary.
  • Fabricate shop fixtures as required by assembly personnel according to engineering sketches.
  • Meet production schedules, quality requirements, and planned labor hours with limited supervision.
  • Use hand and power shop tools.
  • Apply carbon steel, stainless steel, and low-alloy welding methods.
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layouts and procedures.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications, including cutting material with powered saws to match measurements.
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare parts for welding.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers, and clamps.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions.
  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to identify flaws.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
Desired Qualifications
  • General mechanical background.
  • Ability to use hand tools and welding tools safely.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in mechanical assembly.
  • American Welding Society certification for welding carbon steel using the gas metal arc welding process in 3G vertical-up and 4F overhead positions.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work as a team member in group situations.
  • Ability to fully understand manufacturing drawings and verify dimensions.
  • Understanding of tolerance systems.
  • Ability to complete shop order documentation and time sheets.
  • Ability to meet internal company standards for quality and workmanship.
  • Expected contribution to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Working knowledge of torch and plasma equipment.
  • Working knowledge of gas tungsten arc welding.
  • Ability to apply workmanship standards and carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic tasks independently, with limited supervision and in a group setting.
