  • 15+ years of experience with power systems design & management including EPC projects
  • 3+ years of experience leading a multi-discipline engineering team

Responsibilities
  • Accountable with the sub discipline and PEM’s for design budget, schedule adherence, technical change orders, and quality on ongoing projects, you ensure that the Engineers are following the BMS and Code of Conduct; engineering schedules are updated regularly with achievable task duration and resources including design gate review plans formalized and tracked to completion.
  • The teams are accountable for meeting the engineering KPI targets on project activities – including On Time Deliverable (OTD), Say-Do ratio, Average days late, cost of poor quality, and technical related budget deviations.
  • Support your team in design strategy definition, design tasks and deliverables, assignment of resources to start engineering, design safety, project performance, and the availability of tools, templates, references, and standards.
  • Oversee, lead, & coordinate project execution procedures, conduct regular internal team meetings, performance development meetings with your team members, review development plans with engineers, perform skills mapping for your teams and grow competencies. Support department and business data gathering requirements for metrics and reviews.
  • Support the ITO team with OTR resources, technical validation, engineering work scope & labor hours review, execution plan, and statement of clarifications, assumptions, and exceptions based on customer RFP, specifications, SOW, applicable standards, regulations, and accepted industry practices.
  • Update resource and workload plans on a regular basis while monitoring utilization & billable time, engineering budgets, Design Change Notices, Budget Deviation Requests & Cost of Poor Quality, ACT actions, non-conformances, and scheduled training.
  • Deploy engineering and automation tools, document control, KPI’s, interface requirements, and Division of Responsibility with partners and business lines associated to project engineering
  • Support sourcing and procurement in the definition of technical specifications, subcontracting strategy, identification and technical evaluation of suppliers who provide design, engineering and consultancy services and evaluate their workload and performance.
  • Accountable for site/design engineering return of experience, drive lessons learned documentation & design validation, functional knowledge capitalization through check sheets, design guides, training curriculum, work instructions, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with quality procedures and processes defined at project and region level, support internal and external audits, and resolve non-conformances in a timely manner.
  • Develop and use of Lean methods throughout the team with participation in training, Lean projects, Kaizens, and other initiatives
  • Demonstrate EHS leadership and ensure zero deviation plan from safety policies is implemented within the team
  • Lead business quality and transformation initiatives, with a team mindset, to increase competitiveness, and drive productivity & efficiency while overcoming unknowns in a high growth environment
  • Retain key talent through regular contact including recognition, coaching, and development planning.
  • Plan succession of senior engineers
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering License in the United States and willingness to review & seal drawings. P.Eng if located in Canada.
  • Fluent French speaking and writing
  • Strong influencing and relationship building skills
  • Work experience in the specific portfolio you’ll be managing
  • 5+ years of experience managing people, including resource loading, performance reviews, recruiting/hiring, training/development plans, and salary planning.
  • Project Management experience on power systems EPC projects
  • 15+ years of engineering project execution experience in service and/or EPC type environments for high voltage AC Substations, and/or FACTS [STATCOM/Synchronous Condenser] and HVDC
  • Demonstrated successful experience in project technical management of the discipline in a multi-disciplinary team’s context including multiple interfaces and with products coming from several countries.
  • Experience in technical problem solving. Mastering of involved discipline (process, tools, technical aspects)
  • Demonstrates ownership & accountability, judgment and decision making, influences & inspires team, creates a vision and strategy, and has passion for the role.
  • Knowledge of GRID product development groups, products, and personnel through FAT, site visits.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to succinctly communicate complex messages

GE Vernova secures $6M state funding for $96M energy research centre in Niskayuna

GE Vernova has secured an additional $6 million in state funding for its $96 million Advanced Research Center on Balltown Road in Niskayuna, New York. The grant, awarded through the FAST NY programme, will fund water supply, road and stormwater management upgrades at the campus, offsetting roughly half of the $12 million in required infrastructure improvements. The company previously received $9.6 million in state tax credits linked to plans for creating 75 new jobs at the research centre, along with low-cost hydropower allocation. The site, separate from GE Vernova's existing River Road labs, will house energy technology research including a direct air capture carbon system currently under testing. GE Vernova earned nearly $5 billion in 2025 on $38 billion in revenue, with a market value of $242 billion.

ThinkLabs raises $28M USD Series A to help power grids handle AI data centre demand

ThinkLabs has raised $28 million USD ($39 million CAD) in a Series A round led by Energy Impact Partners to help power grids manage surging demand from AI data centres. Nvidia's venture fund NVentures and Edison International participated, alongside returning investors including GE Vernova. The Canadian-led, New York-based startup provides physics-informed AI software that creates digital twins of power grids, simulating scenarios to help operators maintain reliability and reduce outages. The platform reduces what would typically be a six-month, quarter-million-dollar study to under a day's analysis. Founded by former Toronto Hydro smart-grid department head Josh Wong, ThinkLabs spun out of GE Vernova in early 2024 with $6.8 million CAD in seed funding. The company will use the new capital to mature its product and expand features whilst focusing on the North American market.

Trump and Japan unveil up to $40B US nuclear reactor plan

President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have unveiled a US-Japan energy investment plan potentially worth $40 billion, centring on small modular nuclear reactors. GE Vernova and Hitachi will develop BWRX-300 reactors in Tennessee and Alabama, whilst Japan will invest up to $33 billion in natural gas plants in Pennsylvania and Texas. The initiative forms part of a broader $550 billion bilateral investment fund agreed under a recent trade pact. It aims to address rising electricity demand from data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure. However, most SMR designs await regulatory approval and none have been deployed on US grids. The agreement also covers critical minerals and industrial supply chains, with Japanese firms contributing components and participating in rare-earth projects across Indiana, Arizona and North Carolina.
