Responsibilities
  • Explain, promote, and sell products and services such as travelers checks, savings bonds, money orders, and cashiers checks; cross-sell additional bank products and direct customers to representatives for new accounts or investing needs.
  • Receive checking and savings deposits by verifying cash, endorsements, and identification for cash back, issuing deposit receipts, and identifying counterfeit currency.
  • Examine deposited checks, determine funds availability according to regulatory requirements, and complete hold notices when necessary.
  • Cash checks and pay out money after verifying signatures and customer balances; process savings withdrawals, enter transactions into the computer, and issue computer-generated receipts.
  • Answer basic customer inquiries regarding service charges and account histories while complying with disclosure requirements, regulations, and consumer privacy policies.
  • Accept loan payments by verifying payment amounts and issuing receipts.
  • Buy and sell currency from the vault as necessary while ensuring teller-drawer cash limits are not exceeded according to the Teller Policy.
  • Receive Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) payments by verifying deposit coupons and that checks are payable to the bank.
  • Follow procedures for removing accounts from dormancy and place holds on accounts for uncollected funds unless pre-approval is obtained from an officer or supervisor.
  • Balance the drawer daily, periodically batch cashed checks, count and balance cash in automated teller machines and the night depository, count and roll loose coins, and enter required information into Vertex for Currency Transaction and Log Entry Reports.
  • Attend weekly sales meetings and monthly community bank meetings.
  • Handle customer complaints and escalate issues to a supervisor as needed.
  • Recommend methods to improve the department to the supervisor.
  • Dress professionally and perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor to meet organizational needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Cash-handling, sales, or customer-service experience is preferred.
  • Prior teller experience is preferred.
