Requirements
  • An LPN must have an associate degree, a CMA/MA must have a high school diploma or GED, and an RN must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate of Science in Nursing.
  • The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • The candidate must hold an RN or LPN license in Tennessee, or be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate assessment and critical-thinking skills.
  • The candidate must have skills outlined in the LPN orientation checklist.
  • The candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • The role requires the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20–30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly; emergency situations may involve moving up to 150 pounds.
  • The role requires frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing, as well as possible keyboard/computer use and repetitive motions.
Responsibilities
  • Assess and identify patient symptoms and problems, and report unusual data to the registered nurse team leader promptly.
  • Assist in developing and updating the nursing plan of care every shift.
  • Participate in patient care conferences as needed.
  • Assist the physician with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Evaluate and document the patient's response to treatments and interventions accurately and thoroughly.
  • Assist in evaluating nursing care.
  • Meet unit and hospital quality-management goals.
  • Acquire and maintain hospital- and unit-specific competencies.
  • Interact and collaborate effectively and professionally with other patient-care providers.
  • Respect the dignity of patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees while maintaining a professional and courteous environment.
  • Use hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
  • Accept other assignments requested by management.
