Human Resources & Safety Manager
As a flexible packaging manufacturer, INDEVCO Plastics designs and manufactures sustainable plastic films and bags that promote a circular economy. How you will perform the role
A dynamic manufacturing team in Orangeburg, SC is seeking a motivated individual to join our team in the role of Human Resources & Safety Manager. This position is a key component to our organization and will maintain and develop effective internal procedures, handle employee-related issues, support recruiting and retention efforts, and keep performance at peak levels. Working to prevent workplace accidents and promoting health and safety awareness and education to fellow employees are also key aspects of this position.
Job Responsibilities
Human Resources –
- Contributes to continuous improvements in employee retention, training, and morale
- Conducts interviews with potential candidates and ensures new hire process is completed according to established company guidelines
- Recruits for exempt and non-exempt positions
- Coordinates and represents company in regional recruitment fairs
- Works with corporate and local management team on refinement, maintenance, and administration or performance review program
- Establishes key metrics for the HR and Safety functions and reports out
- Acts as the liaison between employees, outside staffing agencies, and production management team
- Oversees new hire orientations and works with hiring managers to ensure that all on-boarding procedures are completed
- Participates in benefit administration, including open enrollment and new hire enrollment, data input, and answering general questions in response to employee requests
- Provides management support and guidance with the progressive discipline and separation process
- Creates turnover, mitigation, and retention analysis
- Creates termination letters, conducts interviews, and administers COBRA
- Represents organizations at personnel-related hearings and investigations
- Coordinates management training and professional development
- Maintains and revises the firm’s employee handbook on policies and procedures
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge to ensure organizational compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and providing HR advice to management
- Ensures weekly, and biweekly payroll is processed in a timely manner, working closely with accountants, and is responsible for payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to the payroll system
- Maintains job descriptions and physical demands of each job
- Administers employee benefits programs such as vacation tracking, health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance
- Manages, administers, and plans employee engagement activities (holiday parties, company picnics, corporate philanthropy projects, etc.)
- Produces and maintain employee files (background checks, drug screens, job training, etc.)
Safety –
- Supports and implements all company safety programs including coordinating safety teams, safety training, incident investigations, OSHA record keeping and workers compensation claims
- Performs, records, and disseminates information from regular facility inspections, safety audits, and other follow-up to ensure effective measures are taken
- Work closely with workers compensation carrier and Occ. Health Nurse on all work-related injuries and illnesses
- Recognizes and teaches unsafe acts and condition mitigation
- Provides leadership and guidance of current and future safety groups such as the safety committee
- Performs other duties as required, which may include assignments in job classifications other than primary assignment
Education & Experience
- Leadership qualities to include ability to guide a team to “new places”
- Demonstrates mastery in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required
- HRIS/Payroll experience required
- Knowledge of Federal, South Carolina State Laws & OSHA rules and regulations is required
- Must have a record of safety program development with solid results
- Minimum of 4 years of HR & Safety experience in a manufacturing environment
- BS/MS in HR or related field or additional experience
- SHRM or HRCI certification preferred with ability to implement knowledge
- Experience influencing stakeholders – competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels
- Demonstrates professionalism and discretion in performing duties and in interacting with various levels of staff
- Demonstrates accountability, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional attention to detail
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across diverse audiences and influence cross-functionally
- Ability to multi-task as well as be strategic, creative, and innovative while working within a dynamic, fast-paced, matrixed team environment
