Requirements
  • A Class A Commercial Driver's License is required.
  • The employee must comply with Pipeline/Highway Alcohol and Drug Testing requirements.
  • CIP certification is required.
  • The employee must be an experienced journeyworker with at least four years of related experience, which may include installing overhead and underground utilities, installing poles and steel tower structures, and related hardware.
  • A current journeyworker card, certificate, or license, or evidence of satisfactorily completing an apprenticeship training program, is preferred.
  • The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without an accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain electric distribution and transmission systems, including overhead and underground facilities and other utilities; gas pipe may be installed but not connected.
  • Perform the duties of an Electric Service Technician, Utility Operator, and Meter Utility Person.
  • Perform all work safely and comply with applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Install, change, transfer, move, and remove poles, pole line hardware, guys, transformers, lightning arresters, streetlight equipment, electrical cable, gas pipe, cross-arms, energized conductors, insulators, conduit, capacitor bank controls, and other electrical materials and accessories used in electric circuits.
  • Install, use, and remove protective equipment and devices on energized electric circuits of all voltages.
  • Use hot-line tools and perform work on energized circuits of all voltages.
  • Erect, remove, and repair steel towers and associated electrical equipment.
  • Use electrical instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and fault locators.
  • Read meters and operate switches and cutouts in transmission and distribution circuits.
  • Patrol assigned transmission and distribution circuits.
  • Inspect poles and towers, including climbing inspections of conductors and equipment.
  • Drive the truck and maintain responsibility for the truck, tools, and equipment carried on it.
  • Operate equipment associated with the work being performed.
  • Locate underground gas and electric facilities and perform additional locates where no Locator/Leak Surveyors exist.
  • Contact property owners regarding tree-trimming matters.
  • Perform minor tree trimming, cut brush, and remove line detriments as necessary for regular duties.
  • Complete written fieldwork reports and properly account for materials and time associated with each job.
  • Perform public contacts when necessary.
  • Lead, train, and instruct employees in their work, including switching.
  • Install, remove, change, and turn on or turn off existing meters, including single- and three-phase self-contained meters through Class 320 and network meters through Class 320.
  • Set voltage recording devices and change bill groups on demand meters as needed.
  • Perform duties in company and customer substations to restore service and perform diagnostics, including switching; analyzing and communicating relay targets; taking amp and voltage readings; reviewing breaker/recloser counts or values, voltage regulator information, and load tap changer information; and performing similar restoration work.
  • Operate substation equipment, including opening and closing breakers and reclosers, operating load tap changers and voltage regulator controls, installing fuses, and performing similar restoration operations consistent with training and ability.
