Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Science, Business Administration, or Health Administration is required.
- A minimum of five years of clinical laboratory experience is required.
- Three years of laboratory management or supervisory experience is required.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are required.
- The ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action is required.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity are required to handle specimens and utilize instrumentation.
- The ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous materials, and other hazardous materials is required.
- The role may require frequent sitting or standing.
Responsibilities
- Manage employment-related activities, budgets, fiscal performance, and quality assurance.
- Plan, organize, and direct staffing, hiring, orientation, scheduling, evaluation, and continuing education initiatives.
- Develop and maintain department objectives and services.
- Resolve daily operational issues.
- Develop policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
- Ensure the proper functioning of instruments, equipment, and computer systems.
- Develop and maintain performance improvement and quality control programs.
- Ensure laboratory testing methodologies exceed quality assurance parameters mandated by national accrediting agencies and compliance standards.
- Prepare annual operating and capital budgets.
- Ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Monitor, analyze, and justify department expenses and revenue.
- Manage laboratory operations meeting four of five stated criteria: annual test volume below 1,000,000; budgeted full-time equivalents below 90; budgeted gross revenue below $90,000,000; budgeted expenses below $10,000,000; or fewer than 150 unique Current Procedural Terminology codes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- A Master of Health Administration or Master of Business Administration is preferred.
- Lab certification or licensure is preferred.
