Responsibilities:

The Advancement Executive Director, URochester Medicine Clinical Programs, is an experienced frontline fundraiser responsible for working with existing and prospective donors to identify and secure gifts at the $100,000+ level for University of Rochester Medicine. They will manage a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, including grateful patients, community donors, and other interested individuals seeking to support clinical care, residency/fellowship programs, and research initiatives at URochester Medicine.

They will serve as the primary Advancement liaison for engagement and fundraising support for one or more departments, priority fundraising areas, or programs. They will work with department chairs to craft strategies for reaching unit fundraising goals and ensure that those priorities align with broader institutional goals, including those that support the For Ever Better comprehensive campaign.

The Executive Director is a senior leader on the Clinical Programs team and will manage up to two direct reports with their own portfolios and performance metrics. They will work with the Assistant Vice President, Clinical, Research & Hospital Programs Advancement to set goals for their direct reports and will be responsible for day-to-day oversight of their work.

The executive director will report to the assistant vice president, Clinical, Research & Hospital Programs Advancement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Donor Strategic Advancement Planning

• Manages a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects with a collaborative, donor-centric approach.
• Creates engagement and solicitation strategies for potential donors capable of contributing gifts of $100,000 or more. This will include an ongoing pipeline development strategy focusing on residency/fellowship alumni, friends/unaffiliated prospects and grateful patient and family members for assigned areas and will require appropriate identification and qualification strategies.

Donor Engagement and Relationship Management

• Maintains regular contact with prospects and donors through personal visits, virtual meetings, phone calls, emails, and written correspondence.
• Builds long-term relationships based on trust while identifying opportunities to deepen engagement and philanthropic investment.
• Solicits, closes, and oversees stewardship of philanthropic gifts to URochester Medicine.

Strategic Advancement Planning and Program Management

• Serves as the primary Advancement liaison for engagement and fundraising support for one or more departments, priority fundraising areas, or programs
• In consultation with assigned department and program staff, develops and executes comprehensive engagement and fundraising plans to support the clinical and research work. Evaluates the effectiveness of plans on an annual basis with the assistant vice president, Clinical, Research & Hospital Programs Advancement.
• Works closely with the URochester Medicine and University Advancement leadership to identify fundraising priorities and develop compelling cases for support.

Team Management

• Manage two major gift officers who will carry their own portfolios.  Provide guidance, coaching, and support to maximize productivity, regularly monitoring and evaluating performance.
• Execute other duties as assigned  by the assistant vice president, Clinical, Research & Hospital Programs Advancement

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree and 10 years of fundraising experience required
• Experience in individual major gift fundraising in a medical setting preferred
• Experience cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of gifts of $100,000 or more preferred.
• Experience management frontline fundraising staff preferred.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising preferred
• Positive attitude that focuses on collaborative solutions to challenges preferred
• Experience with managing frontline fundraising staff preferred
• Proven ability to effectively manage interactions with a wide variety of stakeholders such as executives, physicians, faculty, volunteer leaders and fellow philanthropy staff members preferred.
• Excellent writing and verbal communication, including the presentation of quantitative and qualitative information to a diverse audience of advancement and medical professionals preferred
• Flexible approach to new and changing initiative surrounding patient and family giving preferred
• Experience and aptitude for analytical thinking preferred.
• Customer-service orientation preferred
