Strategic Partnership to Build Europe’s Largest AI Cluster in 2025 in France, Powered by Decarbonized EnergyPARIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Fluidstack, a leading AI Cloud Platform, has partnered with Eclairion, a French specialist in modular, high-density data centers, to build Europe’s largest GPU supercomputer for Mistral AI. The facility, located in Bruyères-le-Châtel, Essonne (40km south from Paris), will provide state-of-the-art compute infrastructure, reinforcing France’s leadership in sovereign AI capabilities and energy-efficient AI infrastructure. This multi-year partnership brings together Fluidstack’s expertise in large-scale AI clusters, Eclairion’s next-generation data center design, and Mistral’s cutting-edge AI research. The cluster will be deployed in phases, leveraging the top-performing GPUs to support the growing demands of foundation model training and AI innovation.A Milestone for Europe’s AI Sovereignty“This partnership strengthens France’s position as a leading AI compute hub. With Mistral AI’s innovation, Fluidstack’s rapid deployment, and Eclairion’s infrastructure, we are building Europe’s most advanced AI cluster,” said César Maklary, Co-founder and President of Fluidstack. The cluster will be housed at Eclairion’s 40 MW site in Bruyères-le-Châtel, with plans for expansion to reach 100MW+. The readily-available connection to the decarbonized French energy grid makes this an ideal location for hosting large-scale AI infrastructure.Building the Future of AI in FranceThis announcement follows Fluidstack’s recent commitment to building a standalone 1-gigawatt AI supercomputer in France with an initial investment of €10 billion. This giga-cluster was announced earlier this month at the AI Action Summit in Paris under the leadership of President Emmanuel Macron. With this continued momentum, Fluidstack is cementing its role as a key player in France and Europe’s AI expansion, delivering next-generation compute infrastructure for AI research and development

Thanks to Her and numerous other works of science fiction, it’s pretty easy to imagine a world in which everyone has their own personalized AI assistant — a helper who knows who we are, our occupations, our hobbies, our goals and passions, our likes and dislikes…what makes us “tick,” essentially. Some AI tools today offer a fairly bare bones, limited version of this functionality, such as ChatGPT’s memory feature and CharacterAI. But these still rely on your information flowing up to corporate servers outside of your control for analysis and processing. They also don’t allow for many third-party transactions, having your AI assistant make purchases on your behalf. For those especially concerned about privacy, or who want an AI model that actually retrains itself to adapt to the user’s individual preferences — making a unique AI assistant unlike any in the entire world — you’re kind of on your own.Until now: a new startup called PIN AI (not to be confused with the poorly reviewed hardware device the Ai Pin by Humane) today emerged from stealth to launch its first mobile app, which lets a user select an underlying open source AI model that runs directly, largely on their smartphone and remains private and totally customized to their preferences. Built with a decentralized infrastructure that prioritizes privacy, PIN AI aims to challenge Big Tech’s dominance over user data by ensuring that Personal AI serves individuals—not corporate interests.Founded by AI and blockchain experts from Columbia, MIT, and Stanford, PIN AI is led by Davide Crapis, Ben Wu, and Bill Sun, who bring deep experience in AI research, large-scale data infrastructure, and blockchain security
Just two months after its successful debut, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has skyrocketed to become the world’s second most popular AI chatbot. According to website tracking firm SimilarWeb, DeepSeek.com now sees more daily visits than Google’s Gemini and Character.AI.This comes just over a week after DeepSeek overtook ChatGPT to become the top-rated free app on Apple’s U.S. App Store. The buzz around DeepSeek skyrocketed after reports showed its V3 model outperforming Meta’s Llama 3.1, OpenAI’s GPT-4o, and Alibaba’s Qwen 2.5 in third-party benchmarks—all while being significantly cheaper.Deepseek Overtakes Google GeminiGoogle Responds to the CompetitionBut Google isn’t backing down. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, dismissed DeepSeek’s models as less efficient than Google’s. “The cost of actually using it is going to keep coming down, which will make more use cases feasible,” Pichai said.On February 5, Google also expanded its Gemini 2.0 lineup with several new AI models, featuring the much-anticipated Pro Experimental alongside the budget-friendly Flash and Flash Lite
Friend, a startup creating a $99, AI-powered necklace designed to be treated as a digital companion, has delayed its first batch of shipments until Q3.Friend had planned to ship devices to pre-order customers in Q1. But according to co-founder and CEO Avi Schiffman, that’s no longer feasible.“As much as I would liked to have shipped in Q1 of this year, I still have refinements to do, and unfortunately you can only start manufacturing electronics when you are 95% done with your design,” Schiffman said in an email to customers. “I estimate that by the end of February, when our prototype is complete, that we will begin our final sprint.”An email I sent out to all Friend preorder customers: pic.twitter.com/wUPR0OhpI4 — Avi (@AviSchiffmann) January 20, 2025Friend, which has an eight-person engineering staff and $8.5 million in capital from investors including Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, raised eyebrows when it spent $1.8 million on the domain name Friend.com. This fall, as part of what Schiffman called an “experiment,” Friend debuted a web platform on Friend.com that allowed people to talk to random examples of AI characters.Reception was mixed. TechRadar’s Eric Schwartz noted that Friend’s chatbots often inexplicably kicked off conversations with anecdotes of traumas, including muggings and firings. Indeed, when this reporter visited Friend.com Monday afternoon, a chatbot named Donald shared that the “ghosts of [his] past” were “freaking him the f— out.”My experience with Friend’s chatbots
