Requirements
  • Hold an MD degree, a PhD degree, and must have completed specialty training in Medical Biochemistry
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Medical Biochemistry
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec
  • Have at least two additional years of clinical and/or research training in the area of Medical Biochemistry
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
Responsibilities
  • Spend a minimum of 50% of time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program; the research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding; internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate
  • Contribute to the academic mandate of the Division as a Clinician Scientist; participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Provide expertise in a sector of the clinical laboratory; engagement in selection, validation and implementation of new analyzers, tests and methods; development and review of biochemistry procedures and quality improvement initiatives; point of case testing; selection and monitoring of chemistry quality control and proficiency testing programs
  • Participate in teaching and training of medical residents, medical students and other health professionals
  • Engage in administrative responsibilities including committee work and development of standard operating procedures at the department/divisional level
  • Participate in departmental/divisional professional activities including symposia, journal clubs and departmental/divisional rounds
  • Maintain professional standards in accordance with the standards of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Collège des Médecins du Québec
  • Participate in service activities of the division including medical supervision within the laboratory, responding to inquiries and participating in on-call activities
  • Be actively involved in McGill’s academic mission (research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees)
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
