BAE Systems has secured a major contract to produce M776 cannons for the US Army, establishing second-source production at its Kentucky facility. The undisclosed contract value expands the company's role in supplying critical artillery systems to US forces. BAE Systems shares currently trade at £22.315, approximately 3% below the analyst target of £22.98. The stock has delivered 27.2% returns year-to-date and 30.5% over 12 months, though it has declined 3.3% in the past month. The designation as a second source for the artillery component could strengthen BAE Systems' US production footprint and influence future contract flow. Investors will watch how production scales at the Kentucky site and whether follow-on orders materialise.
BAE Systems has introduced Ascent, a new spacecraft in its Elevation product line designed for space superiority and exploration missions. The platform features advanced manoeuvrability, including refuelling and high-thrust propulsion capabilities, whilst carrying multiple rideshare payloads. Ascent supports operations from low Earth orbit to beyond geostationary orbit, with capabilities to transport and deploy small satellites and cargo to the moon. The spacecraft can function as a "space tug" to move cargo across orbits and host instruments in lunar and other orbital environments. The platform joins BAE Systems' existing Summit and Trek spacecraft variants. The company plans to deliver its first pathfinder Ascent spacecraft by 2027, leveraging seven decades of space systems expertise to meet growing demand in the space defence industry.
BAE Systems has secured a $180 million contract from Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration for the TRIDON Mk2 anti-aircraft system. The truck-mounted 40mm gun system can engage multiple aerial threats including drones, cruise missiles and aircraft, as well as ground targets like armoured vehicles. The system provides multi-target capability and protection for military forces and civil infrastructure. Its modular design allows adaptation to changing needs and integration of new technologies whilst remaining cost-effective and easy to deploy. In February, Sweden and Denmark procured TRIDON Mk2 systems through the FMV to donate to Ukraine as part of an air defence support package. BAE Systems Bofors, based in Karlskoga, Sweden, manufactures the system.
BAE Systems has announced that the Danish Army has selected its OneArc platform as the foundation for a next-generation enterprise virtual training environment. The seven-year agreement will modernise Denmark's simulation capabilities. The contract includes VBS4, VBS Builder Edition, Blue IG and TerraTools Platinum software, along with ongoing maintenance and on-site training services. The deal represents a significant upgrade to the Danish Army's training infrastructure, transitioning to advanced virtual simulation technology for military personnel development.
BAE Systems has launched Silver Link, a new line of modular conformal antenna solutions for air dominance defence programmes. The antennas are designed to deliver airborne-assured communications whilst conforming to aircraft curvatures to preserve aerodynamic and structural integrity. The product line builds on three decades of conformal antenna design experience and aims to reduce costs and accelerate deployment from prototype to full fleet integration. Silver Link antennas are designed to integrate with any host platform and eliminate lengthy custom design processes. BAE Systems has expanded its facilities to support in-house rapid prototyping, manufacturing and mass production capabilities. The company says the solutions offer high performance with low maintenance requirements and can be delivered at scale for global deployment.
