Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in biological science or a life sciences field, or equivalent experience.
  • For Quality Control Analyst III, at least 5 years of experience with a background in biologics and/or cellular therapeutics; 2+ years is acceptable with a master's degree.
  • For Quality Control Analyst IV, 8–10 years of experience; 8+ years with a master's degree or 6+ years with a PhD, preferably with a background in biologics and/or cellular therapeutics, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience performing flow cytometry methods to characterize cells.
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing, optimizing, validating, and routinely performing flow cytometry methods using analyzers such as Miltenyi MACSQuant, BD FACSCanto/LSR, or Guava easyCyte.
  • Advanced familiarity with flow cytometry data-analysis software such as FlowJo, Miltenyi MACSQuantify, and BD FACSDiva.
  • Familiarity with data-analysis and statistical software such as FlowJo and JMP.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • For Quality Control Analyst IV, experience leading and providing technical training to flow cytometry associates.
Responsibilities
  • Lead technical support, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting for flow cytometry-based characterization, identity, purity, viability, and potency assays used for in-process and product release testing.
  • Own the development, optimization, and transfer of analytical methods from internal and external partners in alignment with International Council for Harmonisation and Food and Drug Administration requirements.
  • Lead the design, execution, documentation, and validation of analytical assays.
  • Lead the design and optimization of multicolor flow cytometry panels.
  • Serve as the primary flow cytometry quality-control representative in cross-functional teams and as a subject matter expert for Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls, Manufacturing, Clinical, and Regulatory functions.
  • Serve as a senior functional mentor to junior team members in flow cytometry technique, data analysis, and good manufacturing practice practices, and serve as a technical point of contact within the work group or project team as needed.
  • Perform and oversee in-process, lot-release, and stability current good manufacturing practice testing of raw materials, intermediates, and human cell and gene therapy products.
  • Perform data review and trend analysis.
  • Write standard operating procedures and test methods.
  • Perform deviation and out-of-specification investigations, including leading root-cause investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain laboratory cell lines and reference materials used in flow and potency assays.
  • Perform equipment qualification, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
  • Perform laboratory activities in accordance with standard operating procedures and laboratory quality systems, including change control, deviations, corrective and preventive actions, training, and audit readiness.

  • Experience with good manufacturing practice quality systems, including document control, deviations, corrective and preventive actions, change control, risk assessment, and internal or external audits.
  • Experience developing and validating flow cytometry or other assays for biologics products in a good manufacturing practice environment.
  • Background in biologics quality control, including testing and/or characterization of monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, antibody conjugates, or other protein therapeutics.
  • Experience with immunoassays and protein analytics such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, mass spectrometry, and high-performance liquid chromatography methods.

Allen Institute, UW, and Fred Hutch launch AI BioDesign accelerator to decode biology's design rules

The Allen Institute, University of Washington, and Fred Hutch Cancer Center have launched AI BioDesign, a collaborative accelerator combining artificial intelligence with experimental biology to explore biological design space. The initiative aims to generate open models, datasets, and tools for creating biological solutions in healthcare, environmental challenges, and advanced technologies. AI BioDesign will operate through a continuous learning platform where AI models propose biological designs, scientists test them at scale, and results feed back into the models. The accelerator focuses on building modular models from tractable biological problems and conducting multiplex experiments. All models, datasets, assays, and benchmarks will be openly shared. The collaboration leverages Seattle's scientific ecosystem, combining the Allen Institute's open-science platforms, UW's synthetic biology expertise, and Fred Hutch's cellular systems knowledge. The project is supported by Fund for Science and Technology, a foundation in the Paul G. Allen philanthropic ecosystem.
