Requirements
  • A technical degree and two years of related work experience are required for the System Operations Technical Trainer level.
  • For the Senior System Operations Technical Trainer level, a technical degree and four years of related work experience are required.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development credential plus four years of related work experience may substitute for the technical degree at the System Operations Technical Trainer level.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development credential plus six years of related work experience may substitute for the technical degree and experience requirements at the Senior System Operations Technical Trainer level.
  • NERC Certified Operator status is required for the Senior System Operations Technical Trainer level.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the training and development of new Bulk Electric System Operators using the ADDIE Systematic Approach to Training, NERC PER Training Standards, and Duke Energy's System Operator Qualification Program requirements.
  • Oversee the performance development of NERC Certified Bulk Electric System Operators in accordance with NERC PER Training Standards, the NERC System Operator Certification Program, the NERC Continuing Education Program, and regional and company-specific requirements.
  • Write NERC Continuing Education Approved Individual Learning Activity applications and execute training in compliance with applicable Federal Energy Regulatory Commission orders, including the FERC Standards of Conduct.
  • Collaborate with the Director and trainers within the system operations training organization to stay current on training practices, trends, methods, and NERC Reliability Standard requirements.
  • Provide operators with the tools and content needed to perform real-time actions during normal, abnormal, and emergency Bulk Electric System conditions.
  • Communicate emerging training tools and methods to the Training Director for consideration as program enhancements.
  • Use file and data management tools to document initial System Operator training and track continuing education training hours for NERC Certified System Operators.
  • Develop operationally specific simulation scenarios and operate the training simulator.
  • Develop web-based learning content independently or in collaboration with an e-learning subject-matter expert.
  • Resolve unexpected training-environment challenges, including technology malfunctions, while maintaining the quality of the learning experience, and inform the Training Director of issues requiring management support.
  • Engage ECC General Managers and Managers in planning training activities and keep them informed of relevant training matters affecting their groups.
  • Provide positive and professional interactions across the PGO organization and demonstrate an actively caring attitude.
  • Provide periodic support in the control room and occasional support at operator conferences and training workshops.

  • Knowledge and skills associated with operating the Dispatch Training Simulator.

Duke Energy cuts Eastern NC and Asheville rate increase from 15.1% to 9.3%

Duke Energy Progress has agreed to reduce its proposed rate increase for customers in eastern North Carolina and the Asheville area from 15.1% to 9.3% over two years. The average residential customer will pay an additional $9.62 per month starting January, plus $5.89 more beginning January 2028. The settlement also caps Duke's return on equity at 9.8%. This follows significant pushback from state leaders and customers after Duke Energy reported $5 billion in profits in 2025 and over $1 billion in net income last quarter. The North Carolina Utilities Commission will review the proposal starting 11 August, with a final decision expected this autumn. Duke Energy Carolinas previously lowered its rate increase to 9.5%. Both Duke utilities will merge into one by 1 January 2026.
