Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field such as architecture or civil engineering paired with industry credentials such as NCARB, RA, CCM, CPC.
  • Five years of industry experience in a leadership role with supervisory responsibilities managing complex projects in construction areas.
  • Active network within construction industry organizations, regional or national.
Responsibilities
  • Engage in advising students.
  • Maintain and active presence in service in the construction industry and students in the construction program, ex: a member and active in the construction related associations, projects within courses, providing continuing education courses, consulting with companies with examples coming into courses.
  • Heighten lab experiences within classes to mirror industry responsibilities of Construction Managers. i.e. deepen course curriculum with greater quality and infuse industry practices that are embedded in teaching responsibilities from the construction industry.
  • Teach assigned courses
  • Provide the Department Chair and students your course syllabus by the first day of class. Ensure that the syllabus aligns with UW-Stout's syllabus policy located in the Curriculum Handbook (link can be found on the UW-Stout Provost’s Office Intranet site)
  • Communicate directly with the Department Chair regarding available course resources (textbooks, e-books, student expenses, etc.) and resource request timelines/procedures established by the university
  • Schedule, maintain office hours and/or online availability for students, in alignment with departmental expectations
  • Provide grades following the process/timeline established by the registrar
  • Participate in the university online learning environment, which includes the Canvas learning management system
  • Participate in course and/or program assessment practices as requested
  • Work with the Disability Services office (http://www.uwstout.edu/disability) to foster an inclusive learning environment, when students disclose the need for learning accommodations
  • Work with the Nakatani Teaching and Learning Center for instructional professional development opportunities sponsored by/via UW-Stout
  • Review and comply with expectations of instructional academic staff, as outlined in the Faculty/Academic Staff/Limited Appointees Handbook (FASLAH) <https://www.uwstout.edu/hr/upload/Unclassified-Handbook-Master.pdf>
  • Attend department/unit meetings as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in construction related field and/or credentials related to specific teaching areas in construction.
  • Ten (10) years of business/industry experience with demonstrated leadership or ownership of a construction company with experience spanning various aspects of construction building construction methods.
  • Engagement in construction programs at technical college or university level through cooperative education experiences, recruitment of students, service as a guest speaker, provide course projects, and/or hands on demonstrations.
  • Three (3) years of combined teaching and/or industry training experience.
