The Commercial Closer IV completes various tasks prior to closing and funding complex commercial transactions, including obtaining and/or reviewing required due diligence, preparing and/or reviewing commercial loan documents including disbursement instructions, and ensuring all required closing conditions have been met.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Collaborates with lenders, outside counsel, Credit, Compliance, and support specialists to facilitate closings for complex Commercial products across all Commercial lines of business including SBA guaranteed loans, Equipment Finance, National Corporate, Business Capital, Healthcare, Food and Agribusiness, Asset-Based lending, and Commercial Real Estate loans.
- Authorizes the lender to close loans after independently confirming all requirements have been met.
- Obtains and/or reviews all required pre-closing due diligence items.
- Inputs and/or verifies the accuracy of entity, collateral, covenant, and other loan terms in origination system and confirms all conform to the Credit Approval and reflect properly in the closing document package.
- For attorney prepared closing documents, works with the lender and counsel to conduct a review of executable document packages to ensure requirements of the Credit Approval are reflected, and any required due diligence has been completed.
- For internally prepared closing documents, prepares and reviews complex Commercial loan closing document packages using loan documentation software.
- Is considered a subject matter expert and as such is able to step in to help close loans in any line of business as needed, assist Manager with writing/updating procedures, responding to Credit Risk memos, preparing or reviewing reports, testing system and process updates, and providing training & coaching to fellow associates.
- Advises as to any financial and covenant tracking to be set up after loan closing, and may assist in confirming collateral is properly perfected at or immediately following loan funding.
- Monitors individual and department pipelines and acts independently as needed to ensure team meets all closing deadlines and service level agreements and is committed to delivering a quality and timely closing experience to our customers.
- Independently determines documents executed at closing match those approved in the pre-closing review and verifies all conditions of closing have been met prior to approving the release of funds to the borrower.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 8 years prior experience with complex Commercial Lending products.
- At least 8 years prior experience with Commercial loan origination systems and/or document drafting software
- Proficient with computer software including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, web browsers and video conferencing systems.
- Proficient with standard office phone systems, including voicemail, call forwarding, conference calling, etc.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal documents comparable to a paralegal
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in corresponding with lenders and legal counsel.
- Extremely detail-oriented.
- Ability to successfully manage competing priorities with a positive, professional attitude in a high volume, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to adapt to frequent policy/process changes.
- Ability to learn quickly and independently.
- Ability to collaborate and achieve success as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Agency/Partnership requirements, entity structure/authority
- Familiarity with the Uniform Commercial Code
- Familiarity with Regulatory requirements for Commercial Lending Products and all collateral types
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with nCino/Salesforce, Compliance Systems, Info Access, Collateral 360, CT Lien
- Proficient in technical writing in order to aid in process/procedures/job aid development.
Level of Complexity and Scope
- Highly complex analysis and interpretation of legal documents, regulations and due diligence requirements as they relate to commercial lending
- Complex loans may represent deals within Commercial & Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, Asset Based Lending, Equipment Finance, Business Capital, National Corporate, Healthcare and Mezzanine lending, secured by various types of collateral with complex borrowing entity structures. The Closer will ensure that the documentation is accurate & complete to memorialize the transaction and perfect the collateral.
Degree of Independence and Decision-Making
- Works with limited supervision and follows established guidelines.
- Ability to ascertain sufficiency of documentation/conditions reviewed to meet requirements of credit approval and Credit Policy/Standards.
- Receives minimal guidance

Compliance Statement
The associate is responsible for meeting all compliance requirements imposed on First Financial Bank by State and Federal law and regulation, as well as all related First Financial Bank policies and procedures. This includes all Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, OFAC and Suspicious Activity reporting requirements, as well as all other lending and deposit compliance requirements.
