US firm unveils sensors to track military personnel and supplies at tactical edge. Rugged NFC tags enable offline tracking across contested military environments. Rune Technologies has unveiled TyrSense, a new line of ruggedized sensors designed to help military units track personnel, casualties, and supplies in contested environments where conventional communications may be unavailable. The hardware marks the company's first expansion beyond software, extending its TyrOS logistics platform directly to personnel operating at the tactical edge. The initial TyrSense products use small, durable NFC tags that can be attached to personnel or cargo. When scanned during a handoff, the system records the location and status of the individual or pallet in TyrOS. Unlike conventional tracking systems, the location is determined by the node where the scan takes place rather than through GPS. The tags can also operate without an active cloud connection or satellite signal, allowing units to continue recording movements in denied, degraded, intermittent, or low-bandwidth environments. Once connectivity returns, the collected information can synchronize with TyrOS. Aim to replace manual military tracking. Military units continue to rely heavily on manual processes to account for personnel and supplies, according to Rune. Information about available resources is often maintained through whiteboards, paper manifests, and manually compiled reports. These systems can become difficult to maintain when units relocate or lose network connectivity. TyrSense is initially designed around three military workflows that commonly depend on manual reporting: personnel accountability, medical operations, and cargo tracking.

The launch follows a year of TyrOS field testing, including deployment during Balikatan 26 in the Philippines, where it tracked supplies and personnel for thousands of troops. Rune serves as the sole logistics provider on the Marine Corps' Project Dynamis and was selected by both contractor teams for the Army's Next Generation Command and Control programme.

The collaboration combines Rune's predictive logistics software with Leidos' AI-powered decision support systems to help commanders anticipate supply requirements across contested and distributed environments. The partnership addresses the unique challenges of operating across the vast distances and maritime conditions of the Indo-Pacific region. The integrated solution aims to improve logistics visibility and mission readiness by connecting data across planning, decision-making and execution in complex operational settings. The US Army has awarded Rune Technologies a five-year, $99 million indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for its TyrOS logistics platform, which addresses a critical weakness in military supply chains: the ability to function when satellite communications are jammed. TyrOS is designed to operate offline on laptops in forward positions under electronic attack, synchronising data when connectivity returns via radio, satellite or cellular networks. The platform integrates fuel, ammunition, food and spare parts inventory with vehicle status, transport routes, terrain threats and weather data, generating automated resupply recommendations. The system is already deployed with the 25th Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Division, XVIII Airborne Corps and Marine Corps units. Rune previously raised $24 million in Series A funding led by Human Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz and Point72 Ventures.
Rune Technologies has secured a five-year, $99 million contract with the US Army for its AI-powered TyrOS predictive logistics platform.
