Requirements
  • Graduate of a Physician Assistant Training Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant or its predecessors and acceptable to the Surgeon General, United States Air Force.
  • At least two years of Physician Assistant experience within the past three years.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must hold a current, valid, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in an eligible United States jurisdiction.
  • Must hold current Physician Assistant certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Must hold Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; online classes are not accepted by the government.
  • Must obtain required physical testing or physical examination documentation.
  • Must complete tuberculosis screening.
  • Must provide documentation of required immunizations, annual vaccinations, and physical examination when required at initial placement.
  • Subject to a background and security investigation, including drug screening.
  • Must maintain good personal hygiene and a well-groomed, professional appearance in accordance with the policy at the place of performance.
Responsibilities
  • Provide primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician.
  • Manage a regularly appointed clinic and immediately evaluate and manage emergent problems.
  • Collect and record medical and social history data appropriate to the patient's condition.
  • Perform general physical examinations.
  • Serve as the primary care manager for an assigned patient panel when designated, managing patients' health and wellness.
  • Examine patients, formulate differential diagnostic plans, and define and order required diagnostic testing.
  • Interpret examination findings and test results and implement treatment plans.
  • Determine the need for consultation and assist with care and treatment provided at the direction of specialists.
  • Approve or disapprove subspecialty referrals.
  • Answer patient telephone consultations with clinic staff assistance.
  • Provide primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.
  • Recognize complicated cases, initiate appropriate treatment, and refer patients to a higher level of medical expertise.
  • Plan and initiate treatment within defined privileges and the facility's scope of practice.
  • Identify and report situations and cases with public health significance and carry out effective control measures.
  • Communicate findings, diagnoses, and planned treatment regimens to other health personnel orally or in writing.
  • Stabilize and manage patients during medical or surgical emergencies and transfer them to physician care when necessary.
  • Determine the appropriate evacuation method for emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange evacuation support.
  • Perform digital, local infiltration, and intercostal blocks.
  • Perform urological procedures.
  • Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with medical treatment facility procedures.

  • Previous experience working in a Department of Defense or Military Treatment Facility environment.
  • Experience in occupational medicine, primary care, or ambulatory care settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and military healthcare operations.
