Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students (leading weekly lab sessions, answering student questions, and holding office hours) and non-classroom time (preparation of tutorial content, marking/grading, exam proctoring, and other course-related administrative duties).
Qualifications
- Graduate-level academic standing (Master’s or PhD student) with strong performance in Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Heat Transfer.
- Comprehensive theoretical knowledge of fluid dynamics, energy systems, and heat transfer mechanisms to support student learning.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer experiments, including instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
- Proficiency with computational and analysis tools such as MATLAB, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, or EES for simulating and interpreting experimental results.
- Strong communication and instructional skills to effectively guide students, explain lab procedures, and provide constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated responsibility and professionalism in maintaining lab safety, preparing equipment, and ensuring smooth operation of lab sessions.
