Requirements
  • A degree in Recreational Therapy, Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist, or Certified Activity Director credential is preferred; experience may be substituted.
  • Extensive experience in creative event management or activity planning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with diverse team members, residents, and family members.
  • Compassion for older adults.
  • Extensive knowledge of current technologies.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to obtain a commercial driver's license and must obtain the commercial driver's license within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience teaching or training others and facilitating groups.
  • Proficiency with telephone and computer technology, software applications, programs, and tools used for the position.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret facility forms, signs, and product instructions.
  • Ability to speak clearly and interpret verbal communication.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship, organization, time-management, problem-solving, reasoning, initiative, judgment, and leadership abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure high-quality customer service for residents.
  • Partner with the Community Relations Director or sales team during prospective resident visits.
  • Perform resident orientation for new residents according to the Welcome Procedure.
  • Create monthly programming based on the Seven Dimensions of Wellness Model and incorporate its emotional, environmental, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual experiences each day.
  • Ensure all elements of signature programs are executed.
  • Manage and schedule guest entertainers, speakers, and outside vendors, including communication, payment, setup and teardown, event requirements, and execution.
  • Maintain communication with regional and corporate Life Enrichment teams through required reporting.
  • Develop relationships with external organizations, vendors, venues, and other contacts.
  • Promote daily events and activities so residents are aware of and encouraged to attend.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust work schedules to maintain adequate staffing for service standards.
  • Research and acquire new talent and entertainment for community events.
  • Prepare the monthly newsletter using Connected Living or Illustratus.
  • Lead the Love Is Ageless program in Memory Care communities, keeping My Life Story Walls current and implementing all other program aspects.
  • Keep the veteran's Wall of Honor current when applicable.
  • Use modern technologies to enhance programs.
  • Manage Life Enrichment department petty cash or credit card, record receipts and expenditures, and balance accounts monthly.
  • Communicate weekend activity schedules to the weekend manager on duty and assistants or volunteers.
  • Represent American House professionally at community events.
  • Maintain Connected Living community screens or the main activity board.
  • Update seasonal and holiday decorations throughout the community.
  • Schedule and provide transportation for group outings and personal appointments in collaboration with other drivers, assistants, or volunteers.
  • Create and manage outing sign-up sheets.
  • Comply with the company's mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • Recruit and oversee residents' friends and family members who volunteer time or resources.
  • Notify the Executive Director and pertinent contacts of emergency situations.
  • Report repair and maintenance needs, including needs involving community vehicles, to the Executive Director.
  • Acquire and maintain a commercial driver's license where required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Life Enrichment Assistants and volunteers.
  • Complete paperwork for new volunteers.
  • Obtain paperwork and records for animals visiting the community.
  • Order marketing materials in a timely manner.
  • Follow established safety regulations and quality assurance procedures.
  • Assist during a crisis or natural disaster affecting the community or another community in the region.
  • Attend relevant seminars and identify senior living industry trends related to Life Enrichment.
  • Perform other Life Enrichment duties assigned by the Executive Director or corporate team.
