Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree related to archaeology is required.
  • At least one year of practical experience or field work is required.
  • Strong written communication skills are required for preparing reports, site records, and briefings for agencies such as State Historic Preservation Offices and Tribal Relations Officers.
  • The applicant must possess and maintain an active Secret clearance.
  • The work requires sufficient mobility for bending, reaching, kneeling, walking moderate to long distances, and possibly lifting up to 25 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Compliance Subprogram and assist in evaluating, protecting, and preserving archaeological, historical, and cultural resources in compliance with federal law.
  • Conduct surveys with the Environmental Impact Analysis Process specialist and Nevada Test and Training Range management, perform field work, evaluate sites, and write reports and site records for submission to Tribal Relations Officers, State Historic Preservation Offices, and other appropriate agencies.
  • Respond immediately to reports of discovered human remains, contact Tribal Relations Officers, and coordinate emergency consultations concerning discovered burials.
  • Provide consultation and advisory services for Native American Programs, including managing government-to-government consultations with Shoshone, Paiute, and Mojave tribes, with travel as far as 250 miles from the installation.
  • Assist with projects required to conform to Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act by developing research concepts, conducting field research, maintaining detailed inventories, and preparing final documents.
  • Follow Operations Security guidelines and applicable directives when accessing For Official Use Only information or restricted areas and materials.
  • Provide general administrative and file-management support to the Environmental Element.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, Air Force, or other federal installation cultural resources programs.
  • Working knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act, particularly Sections 106 and 110, and applicable federal, tribal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with geographic information systems, base-map maintenance, and archaeological database and records management.
  • Ability to engage effectively with senior military leaders, government personnel, and contractor teams.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
