Requirements
  • A high school degree or equivalent is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support or cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification, or certification obtained within 60 days of hire, through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, is required.
  • The role requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time, up to eight hours at a time.
  • The role occasionally requires lifting up to 25 pounds and pushing wheelchairs with patients weighing up to 325 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient medical records with recent test results and correspondence, and determine needed services by conferring with the provider.
  • Complete pre-charting of value-based items up to five days before patient appointments and send messages to the Care Team when warranted.
  • Prepare patients for examination and escort them into exam rooms, including recording height, weight, and vital signs; updating medication lists, allergies, and personal, family, and social histories; asking about smoking status; obtaining the reason for the visit; and assisting with demographic information.
  • Provide directed patient care services, including cleaning exam rooms, maintaining clinical supplies, cleaning and autoclaving contaminated instruments, and giving injections or immunizations within state guidelines.
  • Communicate and coordinate with providers and the Care Team regarding hospital discharges, Emergency Department visits, consulting physicians, community resources, disease management, patient self-management, chronic-condition education, laboratory testing, and specialist visits.
  • Attend departmental meetings, participate in resolving identified problems, and analyze current procedures.
  • Dispose of biohazardous and regular waste according to practice protocol.
  • Maintain vaccine temperature logs, manage inventory and ordering of medical supplies such as vaccines and medications, dispose of expired sample medications, and stock rooms to established par levels.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as patient check-in and check-out and opening and closing office procedures.
  • Bring improvement suggestions to practice managers and providers for consideration.
  • Participate in maintaining and improving quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Complete the applicable 30/60/90-day onboarding checklist to confirm mastery of service-line skills.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
