- Training in a variety of welding processes, including arc welding and oxy-fuel welding, depending on the material used.
- Ability to set up equipment and weld pipe, plate, or structural steel using arc, gas-shielded arc, or gas welding equipment.
- Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, and specifications and produce quality work with reasonable efficiency.
- Ability to obtain certifications as necessary.
- Ability to learn and understand work-related safety hazards and safely and effectively use or operate work-related tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds, with occasional loads up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive use of the hands, arms, and legs and demonstrate hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to communicate by hearing, comprehending, and speaking to safely perform the work.
- Ability to perform sedentary to heavy work.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools, including electric, gas, and pneumatic tools.
- Ability to climb and maintain balance on steel or wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Ability to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects frequently.
- Ability to perform prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, and lifting.
- Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, and loose or soft sand.
- Ability to work in confined spaces when required.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management and supervision.
- Ability to work at various tempos and concentrate amid distractions.
- Decision-making skills necessary for the role.
- Attention to detail and ability to remember, examine, and observe details.
- Prepare materials to be welded and weld components.
- Perform maintenance on welding torches and equipment.
- Perform simple piping installations and repairs.
