Requirements
  • Three or more years of related work experience in sales of property/casualty and life insurance.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; undergraduate studies are preferred.
  • State licensing as required for property/casualty products, with required licenses acquired within the designated period.
  • Advanced knowledge of sales techniques, property/casualty and life insurance products, insurance processing systems and procedures, practices, state regulations, and customer service practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical insurance information to prospective customers and influence them to select Nationwide products.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
  • Ability to work in a call center environment, including extended periods of sitting at a personal computer and using a headset, with shifts and overtime as assigned.
  • A valid credit and/or background check is required as part of the selection process.
Responsibilities
  • Handle incoming calls and emails from prospective personal lines and affinity partnership customers for all property/casualty insurance lines, and perform follow-up work to close sales.
  • Write quality risk policies based on underwriting requirements by interpreting and using appropriate classification systems, rating plans, tiers, and selection standards.
  • Answer questions, provide explanations, and make recommendations regarding appropriate coverage, limits, and deductibles for personal lines policies.
  • Determine and enter rating information into systems, provide quotations, and bind coverage within prescribed limits.
  • Complete necessary applications and forms, issue conditional contracts or binders within authority, and follow up for required documents and payments.
  • Contribute to individual and team quotas and goals.
  • Maintain current proficiency in sales techniques and product offerings, keep up with market conditions and competitors, and learn system improvements and other products and lines of business.
  • Provide coaching and feedback in the training classroom and on the job, and mentor team members.
  • Sell new property/casualty coverage over the phone, counsel customers about insurance needs and product availability, determine eligibility, and bind coverage after collecting underwriting data and information.
Desired Qualifications
  • A property/casualty license is strongly preferred.
  • Participation in professional insurance coursework is preferred.
  • Exposure to multiple-product telemarketing in a call-center environment is preferred.
  • Previous insurance industry experience may be considered in lieu of sales experience.
