MORSE builds novel hardware prototypes rapidly from concept to demonstration through a process we call FabOps. FabOps combines the cultural approaches, infrastructure, and best practices needed to develop prototypes quickly, without sacrificing engineering rigor. The initial prototype work is followed by developing, integrating, and validating complete systems, in tandem with trusted vendors, to deliver high-reliability solutions to U.S. operators. Our work involves manned aircraft, unmanned vehicles and systems, complex integrated systems, and novel custom materials development

As the R&D Lab Manager, you will be responsible for managing our labs, improving, and scaling our FabOps and flight-testing facilities, processes, teams, and operations.  This work will involve: growing and improving physical infrastructure; improving and setting up process to ensure consistency, safety, and capability maintenance; and working with MORSE leaders to identify areas for strategic capability growth for hardware development and testing.

Responsibilities

• Manage our FabOps process, including the infrastructure to support hardware development and flight test activities across a variety of programs

• Assess and explore our infrastructure capabilities potentially including identifying new lab space and new flight test locations.

• Own and improve processes including safety, training, and compliance

• Oversee and develop infrastructure for shipping and receiving, supply chain, incoming inspections

• Lead a team of technicians

• Work directly with program leadership to identify gaps and needs and generate the strategic plan to support current and future programs

Skills and Requirements

• US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED and ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

• 10+ Years of Experience as a lab manager, engineer, or technician

• Experience in the build and development of hardware and electromechanical systems

• Experience in the fabrication of mechanical systems using commonly used techniques and tools and maintenance of these equipment: machining and woodworking tools & equipment

• Experience with, or willingness to learn how to operate and maintain automated manufacturing tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC routers, etc.

• Experience in the electronic prototyping techniques and tools: reading schematics, soldering, crimping, etc.

• Managerial experience, specifically management of technicians to ensure quality of detailed fabrication processes to high degree of quality and accuracy 

• Experience safely handling hazmat chemical solvents used in plastics processing a plus

• A passion for aerospace and defense
