Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of ocean marine claims handling experience, with a focus on marine liability claims, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong desire for continuous improvement
Responsibilities
  • Managing a team of claims examiners possessing varied experience levels
  • Overseeing the resolution of claims with low to high complexity
  • Directing daily functions to assure adherence to established guidelines and standards
  • Analyzing and assessing performance metrics for the unit, including timely and accurate reserving, inventory management and customer service expectations
  • Manage assignments of work to ensure effective and timely handling of claims
  • Communicating effectively with Senior Management, Product Line Leaders, Underwriters, Actuaries, Accounting, Reinsurance and Human Resource partners
  • Managing, supervising, and providing guidance to Claims Examiners
  • Catastrophe planning and claims handing on an as-needed basis
  • Oversight on complex coverage and litigation issues to ensure compliance and resolution
  • Implementation of strategic claims management plans
  • Oversee and mentor professional development plans for staff in preparation for the next level of opportunity
  • Participating in large loss meetings, claims/underwriting roundtables, meetings with external business partners, actuarial meetings, and other claims related meetings
  • Responsibility for the continuous improvement of claim handling quality, case financial outcomes and the achievement of established objectives through the Quality Control program and process
  • Manage external vendors and business relationships, including but not limited to surveyors, independent adjusters, attorneys, and salvage companies
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior management experience a plus
  • JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus
  • Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU)
