Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Engineer-Design at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Rd., Bldg E, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Direct and participate in the concept and design of complex engineering product or process projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. Contribute to the planning and delivery of projects. Accountable for contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes. Perform complex analysis work, identify design problems, and resolve problems. Transition from individual contributor to team leadership, focusing on technical delivery. Work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams. Communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may affect the project team and its project delivery. Decisions may significantly impact negotiations with suppliers, leverage new technologies, warranty, costs, sales, and customer perception. Demonstrate excellent analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts. Keep up to date on changing customer needs as projects progress, stay current with new technology, and provide guidance and direction on projects to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians. Bear significant responsibility for completion of projects with major focus on delivery. Design and promote new components and sub processes; perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; evaluate new products or processes. Perform product maintenance; keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies. Communicate technical information to customers, team members, suppliers and other units and support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers. Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology. Demonstrate excellent analytical skills and perform complex assignments, be a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills. Communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers. REQS: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field and 7 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Agricultural Engineer or related occupation. In the alternative the employer will also accept a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Agricultural Engineer or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Diesel engine fluid systems (Oil, Fuel, Cooling Systems); (2) Pro/E Creo 3D Modelling Software; (3) Casting & Machining Design & Manufacturing (Iron & Aluminum); (4) Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing; and (5) Engineering Print Development and Interpretation.

Summary Pay Range:  

$133,266 - $165,840

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.  Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
